GSD Alumni Council members are highly engaged both in design practice and also civic, professional, governmental, and business affairs within their communities. Council members provide a strong link between the walls of Gund Hall and the “real world” beyond. They contribute to the welfare of the School by connecting alumni and students, and by representing excellence in their chosen professions, which reflect the School’s diverse array of programs.

Proud to celebrate Nader Tehrani ’91, Meejin Yoon ’97, and Theaster Gates ’11 will be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters during its virtual award ceremony on May 19 at 7 p.m. EST.

Membership in the Academy is limited to 300 architects, visual artists, composers, and writers who are elected for life. The honor of election is considered the highest form of recognition of artistic merit in the United States.

The American Academy of Arts and Letters was founded in 1898 as an honor society of the country’s leading architects, artists, composers, and writers.

Join this panel conversation presenting challenges and strategies for preserving, maintaining and growing affordable housing in Chicago.

Affordable housing continues to be a growing need across the country and in the Chicago region. The pandemic in particular has highlighted challenges that many renters and homeowners face with finding housing that fits their requirements as well as their price point. Affordable housing can come in all shapes and sizes and the creation and preservation of this type of housing is critical to ensuring that people remain housed in times of economic downturns. This panel discussion presents challenges and strategies for preserving, maintaining and growing affordable housing from three different practitioners working in the field.
