We all consider and train for what we are going to do if our engine quits, but few of us have actually experienced a true engine out situation.

Scott Aerons, is one of the few, and was fortunate to walk away from it. His plane, not so much.

Flying his Zenith 750 SD with a Viking engine, things got real quiet for Scott, and with GoPro rolling, Scott had to put it down, without a runway.

Scott will take us through the event, from realization that things arent going well and all the way to the ground.

This Wednesday at 6:00 we start our monthly meeting with a potluck, get through our association business, then invite Scott up to speak. We hope to see you there.

You do not need to be a member to attend.

Did you know that everyone is welcome at our monthly meetings? And we have interesting topics being presented at most of them. You do not have to be a member to attend.

This Wednesday Oct 15th at 6:30pm, in the FLYIT Academy main hangar.

Physiology at the Edge of Space

The hazards of altitude are well known in modern aviation, but the journey to the edge of the stratosphere began without the full understanding of how important oxygen pressure was to human survival. This presentation will highlight a few of the key milestones leading to high altitude flight at the edge of space.

The Speaker: LtCol (ret) Andy Woodrow is an aviation physiologist who served for 33 years in the U.S. Air Force and has logged time in 16 different aircraft including the U-2 Dragon Lady. In his role in aviation and diving medicine research and operations, he was a bit of a 'crash test dummy' ensuring the safety of the aviator by pushing the limits of human physiology with oxygen systems, G-protection, and space suits. In his encores career, LtCol Woodrow teaches aerospace science as part of the Air Force Junior ROTC program at Battle Ground High School

If you get a chance, fly on up to Chapman Farms in Satsop WA.
Fairly easy to find, and two miles north of the abandoned cooling towers from the old Satsop Nuclear facility.
Runaway is a well groomed 1800x60 grass strip. East/West orientation. Note, on the West end, you'll fly between power poles. No high line, but there is a low line well flagged at 11 feet agl. 122.9. Fod carts, live music, pumpkins, produce, and a corn maze.
And there's Scott that owns the place. He tries to meet each pilot personally, with a big grin and firm handshake.
Worth the flight!
