Gourd Art Classes are held at the Camarillo Art Center the second Saturday of every month. This is an update from a previous post. The February class will celebrate Valentines Day!

Our January meeting included a Show & Tell where members show the gourds they recently completed and explain the creative process. We had some turkey card holders and an Asian Doll from our past Play Day projects, along with a Halloween gourd with the moon glowing inside, a Halloween lighted scarecrow, a Siamese cat, tole painting technique for blending strokes on a bowl with daisies, a bowl with alcohol inks, a night light, and an painted Old World Style Santa. Lots of creative projects!

Our quarterly design challenge, aka, Charlene's Challenge, was to add a gourd or gourds on a canvas to create a 3-D effect. Check out these creative ideas! The one with the most votes wins a gift certificate. The winner was the beautiful canvas with all the colorful gourd pots!

Here's some photos of our 1st place booth at the Ventura County Fair. The fair theme was Waves of Fun. We had three hands on features including Hook a Gourd where you could try to hook a small gourd, Message in a Bottle where you could drop a message in a gourd that will be sealed and dropped in the ocean and Ocean Drum where you could pick up an ocean drum and try to make ocean wave sounds. In addition to a blue ribbon we received a plaque for Best Use of the Building Theme.
