Happy World Environment Day!

Recently, VCCF was able to attend a TEDx Salon co-curated and hosted by
Community Environmental Council (CEC) and Victoria Riskin of Bluedot Living that centered on climate action and the impact of collective measures. With a focus on sparking discussion in the audience, the content was curated to show real hope, grounded by data and helping to fill the gaps in what action can look like. We encourage you to complete your own climate venn diagram, be a part of the conversation in your community, and support nonprofits that work to strengthen the environment and make it healthier!

VCCF President & CEO Vanessa Bechtel gave a moving keynote presentation with the League of Women Voters of Ventura County for their Annual Membership Meeting. Focusing on "The Power of Community," Vanessa shared moments in VCCF's history of fostering collaboration in our region, such as the 2020 Census, vaccine outreach and business assistance grants during the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disaster responses, the Ventura County Neighbors Support Fund & Coalition, and much more!

Thank you to LWV for welcoming VCCF and for the opportunity to help everyone envision an engaged and thriving community inspired by growing generosity.

Last month, VCCF Board Chair Leah Lacayo and President & CEO Vanessa Bechtel attended the League of California Community Foundations’ Spring Convening in Sacramento. The event brought together community foundation Board Chairs and CEOs from across the state to discuss important community issues. It also provided opportunities to meet with legislatures on topics such as access to highest-quality early childhood education through the Isabella Project, disaster resilience and support for our neighbors in need through the Ventura County Neighbors Support Fund, among other matters.

The annual TEACh Scholars Night was held last week, where our community came together to celebrate and honor the achievements of incredible Ventura County foster youth students. The evening was highlighted by inspiring speakers and an overwhelming amount of pride for the student honorees. A beautiful musical performance, and moving words from TEACh Award alum Sophia Jeffe were followed by all the students getting their opportunity to be recognized.

We are so proud of our Ventura County scholars, and to be joined by a community that celebrates and encourages our students to pursue their educational dreams!

Last Wednesday, VCCF attended Ventura County Family Justice Center Foundation's annual Voices of Hope Gala, supporting their Camp HOPE program. This gathering was filled with inspiring guest speakers and showed us how we can help build brighter futures and healing for those who have suffered from domestic violence and other traumas.

The gala also honored individuals for their contributions to our most vulnerable communities. VCCF would like to send our congratulations to Congresswoman Julia Brownley for being one of this year's nominees! Thank you for your tireless work in uplifting our community!

Last week, the VCCF Board of Directors got together to visit some of the beautiful nature around Ojai! Enjoying an afternoon at Birdsong Ranch in Ojai, we were proud to present a $25,000 award to The Ojai Raptor Center from the VCCF Animal Welfare Fund. We are proud to be able to support them in their efforts to improve our region's wildlife! Our Board followed up this wonderful evening with a day at the Taft Gardens & Nature Preserve, soaking in the scenery and enjoying the majestic beauty found within the grounds. This was a truly wonderful gathering filled with moments that we will all cherish and views we will never forget!
