Some veterans leave a lasting mark on our hearts. Al was one of them.

At 101 years old, Al leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service and a special place in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Al, a U.S. Army veteran who served our country from 1942 to 1945 and was a client of our medical and mobility equipment program. He passed away peacefully in September, and we will miss him dearly.

Our relationship with Al began in 2018, when a friend referred him to us for mobility assistance. As his health and needs changed over the years, we worked to find solutions that helped him maintain his independence and stay connected to his community.

From trying different mobility scooters to eventually providing a compact power wheelchair, our goal was always to find equipment that worked for Al and his daily life. The wheelchair allowed him to navigate the narrow hallways of his senior community and join others at the dining table. These moments may seem small, but they matter. Sometimes, the right piece of equipment can mean more independence, greater connection, and a better quality of life.

When Al needed a higher level of care at the end of 2025, we retrieved his power wheelchair so another veteran could benefit from it—a reminder that this equipment continues to make a difference in the lives of those who served.

It was an honor to support Al over the years. We are grateful to have been part of his journey, and we will remember him with deep respect and affection. Rest peacefully, Al. Thank you for your service to our nation. 🇺🇸

After 20 years in the U.S. Navy, Juan faced a new challenge following a divorce and his return to Oxnard: finding stable housing and rebuilding his independence. When Juan reached out to the VA clinic in Ventura for help, he was connected with us.

Through teamwork between GCVF, Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), county agencies, and community partners, Juan received personalized support and housing assistance. In just two months, those partnerships helped him secure housing at Ventura Springs. Juan has settled into his new home in Ventura County and has a fresh opportunity to build a stable future. Juan’s story shows what’s possible when a community comes together for those who served.

Some journeys honor the service you gave. Others remind you that your service will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸 Longtime GCVF volunteer and Army veteran, John, recently traveled to Washington, D.C., with Honor Flight Central Coast California for a moving experience visiting memorials dedicated to those who served our nation.

Honor Flight is an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides free trips to Washington, D.C., for veterans from Monterey County through Ventura County to visit the memorials honoring their service. John hopes more GCVF veterans will take advantage of this special opportunity!

Tony, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, had relied on his seated walker for years. But after frequent use, it finally wore down beyond repair.

Without a walker of his own, Tony began borrowing one from a neighbor just to get around his care facility. Then another veteran, John, stepped in. Having previously received help from GCVF, John reached out to see if we could help Tony. We had a solution. GCVF team member, Charles cleaned and tuned up a donated seated walker and delivered it directly to Tony. And in a wonderful coincidence, it was almost identical to the walker he had been borrowing.

Sometimes, a simple piece of mobility equipment can mean something much bigger: independence, dignity, and the ability to keep moving forward.

This award belongs to the entire community that stands behind our veterans. Gold Coast Veterans Foundation was recently honored by the West Ventura County Business Alliance (WVCBA) with its first annual Military Community Partner Award.

We’re incredibly grateful for this recognition of our long-standing commitment to supporting local veterans and their families. But this honor represents so much more than GCVF.

It reflects the community partners, volunteers, donors, and supporters who show up alongside us every day to help veterans find stability, access resources, and move forward. Thank you, WVCBA, for believing in our mission and recognizing the importance of supporting those who served our country.

Never underestimate the power of community. When a National Guard service member and his family relocated to California, they were experiencing homelessness and navigating an unfamiliar community without a support system.

GCVF’s Mobile Veteran Outreach (MVO) team stepped in with housing navigation, case management, food assistance, Mobile Services, and connections to community partners. With consistent support, advocacy, and determination, the family overcame the barriers they faced.

They are now housed and have a safe, stable place to call home. No veteran should have to navigate a crisis alone.
