It saddens us to announce some bad news today. Cathi Taylor, ALA National Headquarters’ archivist, passed away this weekend after a long illness. Cathi was a 14-year employee at ALANHQ and served as national chair of the History Committee for a couple of years. She was a member of Speedway Unit 500 in Indiana and a regular contributor to the ALA history blog. Cathi leaves behind an extensive knowledge of the Auxiliary’s legacy and nearly knew by heart everything about the ALA’s Past National Presidents since our founding in 1919. She will be missed. ❤️

Today, we honor the 2,977 people who tragically lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. The memory of 9/11 reminds us that we are strongest when we stand together. It reminds us that freedom is not free, and that there are always brave Americans willing to defend it. May we never forget, and may we always remember those we lost on this day 24 years ago, and those who fight every day, ensuring it never happens again.

The red poppy speaks where words fall short — a silent tribute to the sacrifices made for our freedom by the heroes who served and died for our country in all wars. ❤️‍🩹 The poppy is a reminder that their courage will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

After World War I, the American Legion Family brought National Poppy Day® to the United States by asking Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day as National Poppy Day.

The Auxiliary promotes the poppy as a symbol of the sacrifices our military have made, a symbol to open people’s hearts and inspire them to donate to help support the future of veterans, servicemembers, and their families.

Today, on National Poppy Day, wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living.

Although this flower is small — it is powerful! The poppy serves as a symbol of sacrifice to honor the fallen and support the living. 🇺🇸 Wear a red poppy on National Poppy Day to show appreciation and respect for all who have served and sacrificed in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms. 🇺🇸

On the Friday before Memorial Day, May 23 this year, wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation's uniform. Learn more about National Poppy Day: www.legion-aux.org/national-poppy-day
