Our members are inspired every day to make connections with their fellow local artists and the public. Camano Arts Association, or CAA, began in 1999, as the brainstorm of island artists seeking a venue in which to showcase their work. Decades later, the success of that first art studio tour, has created a mecca of talented fine artists, living and working on the island. On beautiful, bucolic Cama

no Island, Washington, CAA artists are inspired every day to make art, while also providing arts advocacy, art education, and holding the successful annual art studio tour, drawing thousands of visitors.

🎉 BIG NEWS - Katie Trent - Trent Art Glass

👩‍🎨 CAA Artist, Katie Trent, will be teaching more classes this spring through the Jansen Art Center in Lynden. She has a number of beginner-oriented classes for both children and adults. Many of the classes are in Lynden but Beginning Stained Glass will be held in a weekend workshop at her studio in Mount Vernon. She teaches everything from Intro to Glass Fusing, to Rendering Mosaics with Glass to Fused Glass Earrings!

🚨 For the first time, Katie is offering a week of "Glass Camp" for youth aged 10-16 at her studio in Mount Vernon. This is an immersive glass fusing camp during which students will learn all about fusing glass, the techniques and equipment needed along the way and create a new piece of art each day. Students will start with an easier project making 4 fused heart pendants. Over the course of the week, they'll create a colorful garden stake from pre-cut elements and grow their skills by cutting and shaping glass to make a small dish. The last two sessions will explore the nature of glass and how it reacts to changes in volume or air trapped between two pieces of glass making a piece with an optical illusion and a dish with an array of bubbles in a pattern.

New works this spring from mixed media artist - Steve Rostad

🚨 This one is called "Neurobeacon" inspired by certain areas of our brain which act as warning signals (light houses) and give us warning of upcoming trouble. Neural activity in seen in the background. (Far left piece.)

💭 "Biofabric" is about organogenesis where tissues slowly develop to become functional organs and then organisms. Lots of different cells and tissues which come together. (Middle piece.)

🪟 I was inspired by the thought that there are always parts of our personality and thoughts that are trying to express themselves, to break out if you will. Well this is one of those thoughts trying to escape the boundaries of our inhibitions. I named this "The escape from inside." (Far right piece.)

On May 26th CAA continued its tradition of granting scholarships to qualifying graduating Stanwood/Camano High School students who have “a desire to pursue visual arts as a major or minor degree and/or career”.

In addition to the extensive scholarship application administered by SCAF Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation, students submitted 5 photos of their artwork which were evaluated by Dotti Burton, Debra LePage, Patt Causey & Brenda Bolte. The selected recipients of the 2026 CAA scholarships were Quill Rees and Avery Zelinsky.

Before handing out the award packets, which included a letter welcoming these artists into our CAA community, after two hours and a wide array of community awards granting $352,000 in scholarships, Brenda waxed poetic about the virtues of artists. (See comments)

CAA’s student art show, presented this May at the Gateway Gallery Camano Gateway Gallery included work by both talented recipients: Avery Zelinsky and Quill Rees. On behalf of CAA we wish them well in their endeavors, and promise to be a resource should there ever be a need for encouragement or an artist’s point-of-view.

BIG NEWS from CAA Artist, Sharon Snelling - Sharon Lynn Art

🍷 My "Adagio in White" was chosen by Edward Lynne Cellars for their Albarino wine for this Mother's Day Tour. Buyers of this wine or the other two wines from previous years were able to get it signed by me. They have lovely award winning wines so I'm happy to be on the labels.

🖼 For the third year in a row I will be the featured artist at Gallery One at the Camano Country Club which is such an honor! There will be appetizers and wine and some surprises. The opening reception is June 5 from 5 to 7!

🖌 Two of my favorite paintings "Little Green Apples" and "Glory in the Morning are now living in New York! I will miss them but I'm sure they have a good home.

🎨 My latest works are "Snacking on a Saguaro", "Peaceful Pansies", "Social Butterfly" and "Parker" my pelican! I call Parker mine because he was such a ham a pier in Long Beach, California where we spend the winter. He just couldn't stop posing for me and I was just three feet away. He's very used to getting fishy treats from the fishermen there.

Congrats on all your amazing news Sharon!

If you haven't stopped in at the Camano Gateway Gallery to see the 2nd Annual Student Art Show make sure see it before it's gone! Join us as we celebrate the students of Stanwood High School’s art classes and their marvelous art instructors. The show runs through May 31st, don't miss it!

🗺 CAA’s Materials for Art Program (MAP) provides supplementary art supplies and equipment to visual art classrooms at Stanwood Middle and High School. CAA strongly believes that students deserve both quantity and quality of art supplies to give them every opportunity to be creative during the school year.

📣 We have a number of new friends and followers here so let's do some introductions!

👋 Hi! We are the Camano Arts Association! We are a non-profit comprised of artists and art advocates. Our Vision… An association which enriches the lives and culture of the greater community through visual arts. Our Mission... To contribute to and enhance our local creative community and economy.

🖌 Our history... We were born from creativity and grassroots artists that wanted to create a Studio Tour! 2026 marks the 27th Camano Island Studio Tour that we just concluded continuing that tradition!

🎨 Our outreach... The CAA does more that just facilitate the Studio Tour. We have monthly member meetings that include presentations by local artists sharing their inspiration and body of work. We have developed the Materials for Art Program, MAP provides supplementary art supplies and equipment to visual art classrooms at Stanwood Middle and High School. We also continue to partner with the Stanwood-Camano Community Scholarship Program and support the future of the arts through yearly scholarships.

🖼 Our gallery... The CAA's Gateway Gallery is filled with the fine art and crafts of CAA Member Artists for viewing, collecting, and gifting. It is a meeting place for residents and visitors alike, and hosts a virtual ‘Visitor Kiosk’ provided by the Camano Chamber of Commerce with information about the surrounding area.

🥰 We're glad you're here following along and invite you to and visit our website to learn more about our history, events, members, and more! Visit: camanoarts.org

Thank you to all that made the journey to Camano Island and Stanwood to see this wonderful group of artists and maybe even take a piece of art home to enjoy. We'll see you next year!

🪻 Psst... Get a jump on next year! Sign up for our CAA newsletter and get added to our mailing list! We only send out 1-2 email per month and you'll be mailed the first look trifold in early spring so you can see the who's who of artists for 2027!

💐 One more thing... If you missed filling out a Studio Tour Survey, you can now do it online! We appreciate you taking 2 minutes to let us know a little about you and what you thought of the tour! You can find it here! https://camanoarts.org/studio-tour/survey/
