California Balloon Invitational California Balloon Invitational. Located in Windmill Ridge Estates in California, MO. A hot-air balloon race. The "race" is actually a game of "hare and hounds".

The lead balloon, designated as the hare, takes off in advance. Then the hound balloons will pursue. Once the hare balloon lands, the spot is marked with an X. The hounds then drop an object from the sky and the closest to the X wins. Approximately 20 hot-air balloons will take off from the balloon launch site. Crowds will be allowed in the launch site to see the hot-air balloons up close! Vendors and other activities will be in the area. Be sure to bring your cameras!
