Dear Jon Slusher Runners,
You have probably heard that Mr. Slusher suffered a traumatic fall a few weeks ago and as a result sustained a broken neck, brain bleed and various bruises, and lacerations. He remained in the hospital and rehab facility until recently. Needless to say, we are unable to proceed with the Race this year. We have so enjoyed getting to know all of you and it is our hope that the Jon Slusher 5K Race contributed to the overall enjoyment of the community and that the senior students realized some assistance with their college expenses through the scholarship program. You have enriched our lives with your enthusiasm, beautiful attitudes, and your many kindnesses. We will never forget you.

Dear Jon Slusher Runners,
I now have all the t-shirts and those who missed t-shirts and medals at the Race may meet me Sunday Oct. 31 at the Califon Train Station between 2 and 3:30PM for a quick pick-up. We will try to have everything organized so that this will not interfere with your Halloween plans. Again, many thanks for your kind participation through the years. We will greatly miss all of you.

Dear Jon Slusher Runners,
You were magnificient on Oct. 10. It was inspiring to watch you Run and Walk. Sadly the rain was a factor at the awards ceremony and some of you did not receive your medals and/or Tshirts. I have submitted another order for t-shirts which will arrive on Oct. 20. We will pick them up and have them available for you on Oct. 31. So on that date, I will be at the Califon Train Station between 2PM--3:30PM and you may get your T-shirts at that time. And those people who missed receiving your medals, I will also have the medals available for you. I'm sorry I cannot mail the above to everyone. The cost of doing this would affect our ability to award scholarships in the spring. Thank you so very much for your support throughout the past 10 years. I wanted to let all of you know, yesterday, October 7 was the 11th anniversary of the day we lost our Jonathan and we wanted to ask all of you to join us in keeping him close to our hearts as we run the race on Sunday. Thank you for all your support through the years.

In case of inclement weather on Sunday, we have ordered plastic ponchos which can be picked up at the check-in desk. Race will proceed rain or shine.

Information regarding age categories and entry fees.

Following a virtual race in 2020, the Jon Slusher 5K Run/Walk will partner with the Califon Fall Festival taking place on Oct. 10, 2021, and will proceed as usual where runners assemble at the Califon Bridge on Sunday at 1PM, proceed down River Road, loop to the left at Hoffmann's Crossing and enter the Columbia Trail. From here, runners proceed to finish at the Train Station.

Age categories: 9-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80+. Trophies will be awarded to the top overall runner; to the first place male and female runners; the first place walker; and for the first time, a trophy will be awarded to the first place, kid's race. All age groups will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals.

Entry fees are $25. Kids 8 and under pay $5 and families of 4 pay $40.

Jonathan Slusher 2021 Scholarship Winners

The Jonathan Slusher Memorial Scholarship Foundation has named the following 2021 scholarship recipients: Grace Medea, Voorhees High School; Fabiana Rinion, Hunterdon Central; Nicholas Laudano, West Morris Mendham; Gabriella Nowak, West Morris Central; Samantha Popo, Mount Olive. Each award is in the amount of $1,000. The Scholarships honor Jonathan Slusher who passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer in 2010. At the time of his passing, he was editor of the Hunterdon Review.

Dear Jon Slusher Runners,
It is with much delight that we tell you the Jon Slusher 5K Race will resume Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021. Race begins at the bridge in Califon, to the Columbia Trail and ends at the Califon Train Station. There is no age limit and we have a special race for kids. We are currently working with Run Sign Up and will let you know as soon as all documents are completed. Also, we will be coordinating with the Califon Fall Festival. So continue running and we look forward to seeing all of you once again.
