A beautiful day at Sunset Acres where rescued senior horses get to spend their sunset years in the shade of old oak trees, cruising the soft rolling hills, and hanging out with their besties. What horse doesn't dream of this life... or deserve it? Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue provides sanctuary and care to 300 horses at Wild Horse Canyon in Caliente, CA and another 100 horses at our training/adoption ranch - soon to relocate to Tehachapi, California. This is Gizmo. Rescued in 2010 from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation in Nevada. Wild horses on the Rez were routinely rounded up and sold at the local livestock auction. Kill buyers were waiting to fill their trucks, but we made a deal directly with the tribe to take 40 foals so they would be safe from auction. Gizmo was a baby. Our Paiute horses are predominently roans in color and very small. And soooo cute. Gizmo is 16 years old now and lives at our Wild Horse Canyon Sanctuary along with nearly 300 other rescued horses. Lifesavers is only able to care for these horses because of the kindness and compassion of our donors. Angi has a long history with Lifesavers. I mean looooong. She was just a toddler when she came on as staff horse gentler and trainer. Angi left years ago to follow some other aspirations but has never really gone too far and has always been available to help us with our horses.

You might not know that Lifesavers rescues more than horses, mules, and donkeys. We also, quietly, take in goats, pigs, cattle, dogs, and cats - as needed. This is kitten season. We had a litter of ferals born on one of our properties so the trap, neuter/spay, and release program is in action. Mom and Dad were both fixed and released. These babies (5 kittens in video, but 7 total) will be cared for until they are old enough to be sterilized. Then they will go to new homes. We're working on gentling them, but as you can see, feral kittens can be very spicy. It might take a minute or never to get little spicy pants gentled. LOL
