As we near the anniversary of the devastating 2025 April floods, we would like to look back on one of our very own, the remarkable, Sharon Anderson Walker.

Your contributions, sacrifices, and leadership throughout our community do not go unnoticed and deserve to be celebrated. The Chamber has been thankful for your continuous dedication and commitment to serve, as well as set an example for present and future board and chamber members.

March Membership Meeting was held today at the McLean County Extension Office. We are appreciative of our folks there for letting us use their building once again. Rampstop Market, formerly Big Oak, provided a delicious meal of pulled pork sandwiches and dessert. They were also our key speakers for the meeting. Big renovations are still underway at the “old IGA” at 230 West Second in Calhoun. Sarah Wells, one of the staff and family members of the market, gave a great presentation on their vision for the market.

Some may not realize that Rampstop Market in Calhoun is just the newest leg of a business that has been around the last 20 years. The Shocklee Family has operated another Rampstop business that delivers groceries to tugboats out of Owensboro. Because of the long-lived success of this venture, they plan to be able to provide competitive pricing to the community here. All of the jobs from their other ventures will come together in the new Calhoun location.

The newer, bigger locations brings excitement as they also have purchased a steamer for their kitchen. This will allow preparation of fresh seafood. A larger fryer will accommodate cooking larger batches of items, such as chicken, to enable larger catering jobs. The meeting room bubbled with excitement when it was announced that they plan to have daily lunch buffet available!

The family also raises their own pigs and chickens. They raise them as “happy and healthy” until time for slaughter, which is a family event and complete with praying over the animals for their health and nourishment.

Thank you Rampstop for bringing new growth and opportunities to our community!
