Parents seeking Christmas assistance for their children must complete ONE class offered at VAC between September 22 and November 19.

A Legacy of Possibility

United Way of Gordon County mourns the loss of Dolly Parton—a remarkable woman whose kindness reached generations.

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she understood the power of giving children books and the opportunity to dream, learn, and imagine what their futures could hold.

At United Way of Gordon County, we share that belief through United We Read.

We know strong readers don’t just happen when children enter school. They begin with talking, singing, sharing books, and reading together with babies and preschoolers—building the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

United We Read helps parents and caregivers learn how to make those early moments count, because when we invest in children before they ever enter a classroom, we are investing in the future of our entire community.

Dolly showed us what can happen when we believe in the potential of a child.

🌧️🎪 Well… Mohawk certainly knows how to make a campaign kickoff memorable!

Today, Mohawk kicked off its United Way campaign with a carnival theme, complete with games, a dunk booth, great raffle prizes, and lots of fun.

Apparently, Mother Nature heard there was a dunk booth and decided everyone needed to participate. 😂☔

When a ferocious rain and windstorm rolled through and tried to send my United Way tent on a tour of Gordon County, Mohawk Campaign Chair Brian Lockhart came to the rescue! I’m pretty sure saving the United Way tent was not listed in his campaign chair job description, but I am forever grateful! ❤️

A huge thank-you to Haley Chapman, Brian, and the entire Mohawk team for the tremendous amount of work and heart that went into today’s kickoff. It may not have turned out exactly as everyone pictured, but memories were made, new introductions happened, plenty of laughs were shared, and the reason we were there never changed.

Because that’s really what a United Way campaign is about, people showing up for people. And today, Mohawk showed up in more ways than one.

Rain, wind and all, the Mohawk United Way Campaign is officially off and running! ❤️🙌

From the starting line to the finish, our 2026 Kids Race was full of determination, excitement, smiles, and a whole lot of little legs moving FAST! ❤️

Every runner deserves to be celebrated—not just for where they finished, but for showing up, giving it their all, and crossing that finish line. 🥇🥈🥉

We’re so proud of every one of these amazing kids who came out! And a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make the United Way of Gordon County 2026 Kids Race & Back to School Bash such a special day for our community.

The United Way of Gordon County was proud to host the 2026 Kids Race and Back to School Bash on Friday, August 7th as part of our United We Read program!

We celebrated our young runners as they took on the 1K races for ages 5–7 and 8–12, along with our 1/4-mile race for our youngest participants. These kids showed us what determination, confidence and a whole lot of enthusiasm look like! 🏅

The United Way of Gordon County is thrilled to welcome Lily to the team to help manage our social media initiatives. A current senior at Calhoun High School, Lily brings a strong passion for graphic design. Beyond her artistic talents, she stays active on the sidelines and the dance floor with her love for cheering and dancing, all while remaining involved in several school organizations. We are excited to see the energy and creativity she brings to our community efforts!
