FREE Child Passenger Safety Seat Check Event on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 at the Caledonia Fire Department. This program is brought to you by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Livingston County

Families in Wayne, Livingston, Seneca, Yates, or Ontario County may qualify for a FREE family nutrition program designed to help build healthy habits at home.

Participants will receive:
• Up to $400 to spend on healthy foods
• One-on-one phone support with a nutritionist
• 6 short nutrition and cooking classes through Cornell Cooperative Extension (completed on YouTube)
• Kitchen equipment to help you prepare healthy meals

Families earn $40 for each completed class or phone call, which can be used toward groceries.

The only requirement is that you have children under 18 living in your home.

This program is not affiliated with our school, but it may be a great opportunity for local families.

🦋 January is Thyroid Awareness Month

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in your neck, but it plays a big role in your overall health. It helps regulate metabolism, energy levels, heart rate, and body temperature.

Thyroid disorders affect millions of people, and many don’t realize they have one.

Common signs of thyroid issues may include:
⚡ Fatigue or low energy
⚖️ Unexplained weight gain or loss
❄️ Sensitivity to cold or heat
💓 Changes in heart rate
🧠 Brain fog or mood changes

🩺 Regular checkups and simple blood tests can help identify thyroid concerns early. If symptoms feel off or persistent, it’s worth a conversation with your healthcare provider.

As we celebrate the holidays, let’s remember: safety matters just as much as fun.

Here’s how to shop smart and stay safe:
🎨 Choose toys that match the child’s age and maturity
🔍 Avoid toys with small parts for children under 3
🧸 Look for safety certifications like “ASTM” on packaging
🔧 Check for sharp edges, cords, or toxic materials
🎇 Keep decorations and lights away from young children

This in-person class is a required step before taking your NYS road test. Students must have a valid learner’s permit and will receive their MV-278 certificate upon completion.

🍎 November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

Over 1 in 10 Americans live with diabetes, and millions more are at risk. But small changes can make a big impact.

💡 Prevention and management tips:
🧪 Get your blood sugar tested — especially if you have a family history
🥦 Follow a balanced diet and control portion sizes
👟 Stay physically active — even a daily walk can help
🚭 Avoid to***co and limit alcohol
👨‍⚕️ Work with your healthcare provider to manage medications if needed

Let’s raise awareness and empower our community to live well with — or without — diabetes.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection is key — and it saves lives.

🎗️ What you can do:
🩺 Schedule regular mammograms (recommended starting at age 40–50)
🫀 Know your family history and risk factors
💗 Do monthly breast self-checks and report any changes to your doctor
🥗 Maintain a healthy weight and stay active — it lowers your risk
👩🏽 Encourage the women in your life to prioritize their health too
Together, we raise awareness, offer support, and work toward a cure.

Did you know that 3 out of 4 car seats are installed incorrectly? 😲 Here’s your chance to make sure your child’s car seat is safe and secure!

Join us on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9 AM - 12 PM at the Caledonia Fire Department (3095 Main St., Caledonia, NY 14423) for a FREE Car Seat Safety Check.

👶 Children and their parent/guardian must be present for the inspection.
📅 Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome!
