A message from Superintendent Dr. Chenaille:

The Raiders are mourning the loss of Mary Catherine Hamilton, a beloved teacher, coach, friend, and for so many— our biggest cheerleader.

Mary Catherine graduated from Cal-Mum in 1962 and represented her class as Salutatorian. She returned to the Home of Champions in 1968 to teach Social Studies. Mary Catherine invested in the Raiders every day—a calling that brought her such joy. She believed that our past is essential to our future, traditions should be preserved, and the Raiders deserve OUR best. After 55 years of service to the district, Mary Catherine sightings, cards, notes of congratulations, letters filled with advice, and coloring book pictures remained part of Raider life. To get a “love note” from Mary Catherine— what a gift!

Let’s take a moment to acknowledge her legacy. Mary Catherine was a teacher. She valued life lessons, took the time to engage each of us in them, connected with us in such a special way that we hung on her every word, and she challenged us to take care of our school and community. “Cal-Mum is a special place,” she would say. She planted her love for teaching inside so many and those seeds will grow for generations to come.

On behalf of the Raiders, near and far, we send our love to Mary Catherine’s family. Thank you for sharing her with us.
