Owen’s 10th birthday service celebration! It is hard to believe my sweet Owen would be 10 years old this year. I’m so grateful that I’ve never lost the feeling of him in my arms, or his sweet cheeks on my lips with a million kisses a day. It has been ten years, and I can still feel every feeling like it was yesterday. He was beautiful, strong, sweet, and has blessed more lives than I can comprehend. Though we lost our 2nd son Owen to bacterial meningitis, his life and legacy lives on through powerful yearly birthday celebrations, sweet drawings our children include him in, and every day conversations about what we think he would be like, or little ways he shows up for us.
This year for Owen’s BIG 10, we are helping the East Chambers Primary library build an incredible discovery wall. This wall will include hands on, creative play. It will encourage imagination… no screens! The vision Mrs. Shanda Kahla has for this library is incredible, and her love for all of the sweet children is tangible. This is extra special to me because 3 of Owen’s siblings have attended school here, and this is something not only Gavin and Emily will be able to play with and enjoy, but 475 other students every single year. This discovery wall will be a wonderful addition to the school, and allow the library to be utilized in many different ways. It is a large, spacious room, ready to let children be creative and have fun at school!
When I think back on our last 9 years of service celebrations in Owens’ memory, I can’t help but smile. Many of you have helped make them so special and memorable! Thank you for your love for our boy, and for helping us celebrate him each year.
