Although bullying proves tremendously destructive, there are a handful of ways in which it can be avoided or stopped. Victims should be encouraged to seek friends, in person as well as online, who are supportive and kind. They should try to move in groups if possible, since bullies most often single out those who are alone. At other times, ignoring bullies can resolve the conflict. After noticing that their tactics do not work, instigators usually stop committing their wrongful acts and move on. It is not necessary for one to fight back to defeat a bully. Victims can also settle bullying by showing a high level of confidence, and firmly telling the bully to leave him or her alone. In some cases, this type of assertiveness will work. One who has been tampered by bullying should also try their hardest to only be around bullies at a time or place where they cannot perform their distressing acts. To prevent cyberbullying, an individual must never post messages or images which may embarrass as well as cause harm to anyone and always keep their social media password a secret along with privacy settings secure. Adolescents who are bullied should talk to a parent, trusted adult, or a close friend, about their situation.
