The Caldwell Care Network (CCN) held their annual Driver Appreciation Lunch on Tuesday, January 23 at the Caldwell Regional Medical Center (CRMC). The CCN Provide-A-Ride Program offers local senior citizens a ride to local medical appointments. The program relies upon volunteer drivers to make the program successful. Rides are provided at no cost to the client and the program is funded by the Sumner County Department of Senior Services through the generous support of our County Commission. Please contact the CRMC at 620-845-6492 for more information about Provide-A-Ride. Pictured are the Provide-A-Ride Volunteers and MacKenzie, our dispatcher from the Caldwell Regional Medical Center.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED

Caldwell Care Network: Provide-A-Ride Program

The Caldwell Care Network, a non-profit volunteer organization, serves the residents of the Caldwell area by loaning out home health medical equipment (like walkers and wheelchairs etc.) and providing rides to medical appointments. We need additional volunteer drivers. Volunteer drivers provide rides to residents who need transportation to a medical, dental or vision appointment. Drivers are paid .56 cents per mile to cover fuel expenses. Requirements for drivers are:

· Current Driver’s License

· Proof of Insurance

· Dependable and Safe Auto

The Caldwell Care Network Provide-A-Ride drivers transport to appointments in Caldwell. Out of town transport includes Wichita, Wellington, Winfield and Arkansas City for appointments. We average 3-6 trips per month. Most drivers make 1-2 trips in a month.

This is a perfect way for a recent retiree to give back in support of the citizens of the Caldwell area. Please contact Joey Hudson at 316-250-3296 if interested and to learn more about how you can become a Provide-A-Ride Volunteer.

The Provide-a-Ride portion of Caldwell Care Network is for people 60 years old or older needing transportation for medical and essential needs only. Medical appointments such as doctor, dentist, eye, chiropractic, physical therapy, blood work, and special tests are valid reasons. Use of local service providers is strongly encouraged. When required, these appointments may be at a location up to 75 miles one way, or a maximum of 150 miles per trip. For example, appointments in Wichita, Enid, Winfield, Arkansas City, Wellington, etc. may be authorized. All transportation is provided on a volunteer basis.

Volunteers in the Provide-a-Ride program use their own vehicles. They donate their time, but are reimbursed for mileage at established rates. Funds for mileage reimbursement come from two sources. First, our actual mileage records are submitted to Sumner County Senior Services, and second, we receive generous donations from private sources, such as Memorials and prior "customers" who wish to express their appreciation. These funds are retained in our account and used for mileage reimbursement and for purchase of loaner equipment when needed and approved by the Directors.

The Caldwell Care Network, Inc. (CCN) was established in 1991 as a Kansas Non-profit corporation for the purpose of providing no-cost local volunteer services to our local Senior persons for health related assistance. In general, this assistance consists of providing transportation (Provide-a-Ride) and providing "loaner" equipment, such as wheel chairs.

A Client Agreement signed by the person receiving Provide-a-Ride assistance is required prior to the service being provided. This agreement acknowledges that the CCN Organization, the ride provider, etc. are not responsible for accidents, mishaps, expenses resulting from missed appointments, or other liabilities. Agreements are also signed by the CCN volunteers who provide services.
