Creating safer, more resilient forests and communities starts before wildfire season arrives. During Wildfire Preparedness Month, projects like shaded fuel breaks highlight how proactive forest management can help reduce wildfire impacts in vulnerable areas.

Shaded fuel breaks work by thinning the dense vegetation while keeping larger trees intact. Removing ladder fuels and invasive plants can help slow wildfire movement, support forest health, and improve conditions for firefighters responding.

Used alongside tools like prescribed fire, grazing, and mastication, shaded fuel breaks are one of many strategies helping communities across California prepare for future wildfires.
