St. Croix International Waterway Commission

St. Croix International Waterway Commission The SCIWC is an international, non-profit organization that works in the St. Croix boundary watershed Croix river corridor.

The SCIWC is responsible for overseeing the implementation of a long-term management plan for the St. The key goals of the plan are:

1) To protect and enhance the waterway's natural heritage: its scenic landscapes and waterscapes; its fish, wildlife, forest and plant resources; and its quality of air, land and water.
2) Preserve and realize additional benefits from the waterway's cultural herita

ge; its significant history, its traditional economic and recreational bases, and its rural quality of life.
3) Identify and nurture new avenues for recreational and economic development, compatible with the waterway's natural and cultural values.
4) Establish priorities and a balance for growing demands on the limited land and water resources along the waterway, for the greatest long-term public benefit.
5) Strength government and public/private partnerships for effective planning and management to more equitably share the benefits and responsibilities of waterway stewardship.

Pretty bad when they steal the Canadian Heritage River plaque!

We've recently had a spate of thefts occur which have affected us greatly, and have cost us thousands of dollars.

Most recently the plaque celebrating the St. Croix as a Canadian Heritage River was stolen over the weekend at the St. Croix, NB canoe launch.

We do our best as a relatively small organization to make the most use of our resources, our time, and make our dollars go the furthest, but it is discouraging to see this behavior over and over again.

If anyone has any information about what happened to this plaque, please get in touch with us, as this is not something we can easily replace.

Well worth checking out!

We've been busy this Spring already rebuilding docks, running the river, and more. Low water so far this Spring has prevented trips up top on the river, but our dedicated Recreation Crew made the run from Loon Bay to Grand Falls this week.

Who's excited for some St. Croix canoe trips this year?

While winter hasn’t given up yet, we’d like to announce that reservations for our 3 managed Provincial Parks located at Spednic Lake, Scott Brook, and Gravel Island will officially open up on Wednesday, March 25th at 10:00AM (Atlantic). Reservations can be made online at https://stcroixinternational.checkfront.com/reserve/ or by calling our office at 207-952-9069.

The 2026 camping season for Scott Brook and Gravel Island will be from May 15th – September 7th, and we’re excited to announce that Spednic Lake Provincial Park will be kept open an additional month this year until October 5th! That means that we will be fully staffing the park and accepting reservations at Spednic for some of the best times of the year to camp during the fall!

Please note the following changes for the 2026 camping season:

• The price for tent sites has increased from $20 to $25/night.
• The price for trailer sites has increased from $25 to $30/night.
• The price for a bundle of firewood at the campgrounds has increased to $7.
• The layout and numbering of tent sites 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 at Spednic Lake Prov. Park has changed to better utilize available space, and to further separate sites from each other.
• Tent site 6 at Spednic Lake Prov. Park is now a group tent site – this has space for up to 4 tents, and a maximum of 12 people. It can be rented for $35/night.
• The layout and numbering of sites 12, 13, and 14 at Scott Brook Prov. Park has changed. These 3 sites have been split into two sites and are now designated as tent only.
• Spednic Lake Provincial Park to remain open until October 5th.

We’ve also got some availability for seasonal sites at Spednic Lake this year – give us a call at 207-952-9069 if you’re interested, or email us at [email protected] to learn more.

It won’t be long until campfires under the stars, longer days, sunset swims, biting fish, and the call of the loons at our parks. We’re excited to welcome everyone back once again and hope to see you in 2026!
