If you saw this in the sky earlier this evening, it's not a UFO. Photo credit: Chris Leslie, shot over Cambridge, Washington County. This spiral is likely the result of a European Space Agency Ariane 6 rocket launch which occurred around 4pm EST from Europe's Space Port in French Guiana. The rocket was carrying a Sentinel-1D satellite, which is part of the European Union's Copernicus Earth-observation program. The spiral effect is caused by the rotation of the rocket and fuel venting.
