Today's Kiwanis program was given by Laramie Reneau, creator of Flow Forward. Flow Forward is a project Laramie created to help young girls gain access to free feminine hygiene products. Her goal for this project, with the help of local donations from churches and local community members, is to place these products in all of our local middle schools so that all girls have access to the essentials they may need but may not be able to afford.

Yesterday, the Cairo Kiwanis Club was pleased to welcome Madison Brown, the new Executive Director of the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce!

Madison shared her vision and plans for the Chamber, highlighted several exciting upcoming events, and emphasized her open-door policy. She also encouraged our members and the entire community to get involved and take an active role in supporting the continued growth and success of Cairo and Grady County.

We enjoyed hearing from Madison and look forward to seeing all that’s ahead for our Chamber and community!

Cairo Kiwanis Club proudly donated $500 to Turner's Tribe!

After Turner Jones was diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome in 2019, his parents, Brooke and Jeremy Jones, felt inclined to bring greater awareness to such a rare genetic disorder. From that journey, Turner’s Tribe was born; a support group dedicated to raising awareness, supporting families, and raising funds for continued research.

What began as one family’s mission to provide support and raise awareness, has now raised more than $65,000 to help further research and make a difference for individuals and families affected by Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. Through their continued efforts, Turner’s Tribe is helping shine a light on a rare disorder while building a tribe that reminds families they are not alone.

Cairo Kiwanis Club recently enjoyed a wonderful program presented by Hurst Hometown Supply!
In July 2025, Terry Hurst purchased the former Build N’ Center with a vision of creating one of the area’s most trusted and knowledgeable building supply stores. Thank you to Terry Hurst and Chris Woodell for sharing their story with us and for investing in our community. We’re always excited to learn more about the local businesses helping Grady County grow!

We also took time during our meeting to recognize Jeff Jolly as he was officially inducted into the Cairo Kiwanis Club. We’re excited to welcome Jeff to the Kiwanis family and look forward to serving our community alongside him!

Today's program was given by Jeremy and Brooke Jones. A yearly presentation our Club enjoys every year given on Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS), also known as 22q13 deletion syndrome, a rare genetic disorder caused by a missing piece of chromosome 22. A Syndrome there son Turner has.
The Jones family established Turner's Tribe in 2019 and have raised money yearly by selling T-shirts to the community and donating all the procceds to the foundation. As another year approaches they will continue to do there part to raise awareness and funds to help the foundation which in turns helps the families effected by this disorder as well as with clinical trials. There's several different trials going on right now as we speak. The community has become a big part of helping this family be able to give back to the foundation. Since the beginning they have given over $65k to the foundation.

Cairo Kiwanis Club recently had the honor of recognizing our Teachers of the Year!

Each year, every school in our district selects one outstanding educator to represent their school as Teacher of the Year, an honor made even more special because these educators are chosen by their peers.

From these exceptional school-level honorees, a panel is given the difficult task of selecting one educator to serve as the overall Grady County Teacher of the Year.

We are incredibly proud to have so many dedicated, talented, and passionate educators serving the students of Grady County. Their commitment to making a difference in the lives of our students and strengthening our community does not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to all of our Teachers of the Year! We are grateful for all that you do for our students, schools, and community!

Today our program with given by Giulia Pescini and Hanna Scheimann, exchange students from Italy and Germany. Giulia and Hanna both are currently staying with each of their own host family's (The Grubbs Family & The Harrison Family) and attend Cairo High. They are both excited to experience the different cultures here vs what they have back home. Welcome to the South Giulia & Hanna!

Today, the Cairo Kiwanis Club was pleased to welcome Grady County’s School Safety Director, Craig Singletary, as our guest speaker. Chief Singletary shared valuable insight into the important role School Resource Officers (SROs) play in our schools. He discussed the specialized training these officers receive and the many ways they work to support, protect, and build positive relationships with our students.
We appreciate Chief Singletary taking the time to speak with us and for his continued dedication to keeping our schools and community safe!
