Alexander/Pulaski Counties NAACP to Host 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast

MOUNDS, Ill. — The Alexander/Pulaski Counties NAACP will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast on Monday, January 19, 2026, beginning at 9 a.m. The event will be held at the Meridian High School gymnasium, located at 1401 Mounds Road, Mounds, IL 62964.

This annual gathering brings together community members, leaders, and youth to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to reflect on the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality. This year’s theme, “The Urgency of Now,” underscores Dr. King’s call to confront injustice with courage, clarity, and collective action.

The NAACP is honored to welcome Rev. Joseph A. Brown, S.J., PhD, as the special guest speaker. Rev. Brown serves as the Director of the School of Africana and Multicultural Studies at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and is widely respected for his scholarship, ministry, and lifelong commitment to cultural understanding and social justice. His message is expected to offer both historical insight and timely inspiration.

Tickets for the breakfast are available at the following rates:
$20 per adult
$10 for youth: ages 12 and under
$200 per table (seating for six)

Community members are encouraged to secure tickets early, as the event traditionally draws strong attendance from across Southern Illinois. Tickets may be purchased by contacting any member of the Alexander/Pulaski Counties NAACP at 270-366-2014 or 618-734-9188 or by email to [email protected].

Proceeds from the breakfast support local NAACP initiatives, youth programming, and ongoing civil rights advocacy throughout the region.
