Harrison County Historical Society (Ohio)

Harrison County Historical Society (Ohio) The mission of the Harrison County Historical Society is to preserve and interpret our rich history. Custer and much more. We currently have around 190 members.

Our archives include everything from early land grants to modern playbills. Our collections include a mastodon tooth found in the county, Native American artifacts, the earliest documented photograph of New Rumley native George A. Our primary interpretive effort is The Jimhinker, a quarterly publication of historical articles and society news. It was named after the Nottingham Township version of

the Big Foot Legend. The beast has been roaming the county for over 100 years! We also do presentations in conjunction with the Puskarich Public Library, most notably our annual fall cemetery tours. We were chartered on July 25, 1952 with 62 charter members. One of which, Corley Anne Morton Byras, is still an active Life Member. The society is overseen by four officers and three trustees. In addition to a vote at board meetings, the trustees also manage our endowment. We have two buildings: the historic 1824 Bullock House and the 1927 Cadiz Republican Building. As of April 2010 we are renovating the Republican Building with the hope of moving our collections to make them more accessible.

LINCOLN AT THE LIBRARY TONIGHT! Presented in cooperation with the Harrison County Historical Society!

Join us on March 15th at 6:00pm at the Puskarich Library in Cadiz for an evening with Abraham Lincoln himself!

Adults and children alike will enjoy hearing a first-hand account from Abraham Lincoln himself of the history of the United States of America during his time, from his childhood on the frontier to the twelve turbulent years from 1854 to 1865 which nearly destroyed our young nation but instead eventually resulted in a “new birth of freedom”.

Mr. Lincoln is portrayed by Kevin Wood, a professional Lincoln presenter who bears a remarkable resemblance to “the Great Emancipator” and who is extremely knowledgeable about his life and times.Mr. Wood has been portraying Mr. Lincoln since the year 2000, and on a professional basis since 2015. He has made over 1,700 appearances in 32 states plus Washington DC and two foreign countries: Canada and Spain. Mr. Wood also writes a blog – “Loath to Close... Still!” – which encourages others to reflect upon and learn from President Lincoln’s life and legacy.

The program was made in collaboration with the Harrison County Historical Society and Puskarich Public Library
