Our story.

My name is Tina and our story begins with my cousin and her beloved German Shephard, Major. Their story is one that won’t soon be forgotten, if ever. It is a story about loyalty, perseverance and community; about unconditional love and devotion.

If you have been lucky enough to really connect with a dog you will relate, you know, where just a look can send the them off to find the ball or to the front door to check for intruders. Your thoughts are read as clearly as if you had spoken them. That’s the kind of bond I’m talking about. My cousin relies on it daily to keep her life in balance. When that balance started to shift, and the possibility of her dog being lost forever looming ahead, I soon learned how much she would sacrifice all for the love of a dog.

Our Story……On the evening of July 4th 2017, Major was spooked by fireworks sending him deep into woods. Fearful and unfamiliar with the area, he became lost. Little did we know our lives were about to change. And change it did. We spent the first two grueling weeks calling, searching and handing out flyers. We posted them anywhere and everywhere we could - with local businesses and neighbors. We taped signs on our vehicles, contacted local shelters and of course the “pound”. There was no place we hadn’t searched, no agency uncalled and Facebook was blazing with tips and tracking suggestions. Social Media became a vital tool. Almost daily I would get home from work and I would be unable to reach Trudy; she was back in the woods searching for her best friend. Her entire life had become focused around finding Major. She was driven. Consumed. She was risking everything she had. All for the love of a dog.

On day 20, A GSD who lives at the base of the ridge across from my house begged his owner to go outside, he took off into the woods and when he returned he brought Major back with him. He was found less than a mile from where the trap was set. The owner of the dog recognized Major from social media and knew who to call. Minutes later I heard screams coming from the front yard, “He’s home! Tina come quick, he’s home! Major is home!! I couldn’t believe my eyes. There he was, dirty, skinny, clearly dehydrated and in that moment he looked like he was in heaven. They burst into the house collapsing on the kitchen floor, both of them exhausted, relieved and so happy to have found each other after all that time.
