Caddo Gap VFD responders Jim and Renita Jackson attended the 4th Annual Volunteer Training Weekend sponsored by the Arkansas Fire Training Academy the weekend of October 10-11, 2026. They attended an 8 hour EMS class and a 4 hour ISO class. The new new EMS building was toured and refreshers in recognizing shock, splinting, backboard use, Stop the Bleed, and patient extrication from wrecked vehicles were covered. The EMS class and the Auto Extrication class combined at the end of the day to participate in a simulation on Saturday. The ISO class had valuable information for our fire department to improve its ISO rating and provide better service to our community. On Sunday there was also a Landing Zone class that also included a simulation for landing a helicopter and loading a patient. Old friends were there and new ones made! Highly recommend the Volunteer Training Weekend to anyone interested in next year’s event! Thank you Arkansas Fire Training Academy for sponsoring this event for Arkansas firefighters!

Come on out to the Caddo Gap Heritage Festival tomorrow!!! We will have smoked pulled pork sandwiches and smoked leg quarters cooked by our very own John Hollifield and Jim Jackson. We will also have loaded nachos, chips, and drinks. There will be other festivities and lots of vendors. See you in the morning!

MATT HAS BEEN LOCATED!!! HE IS OK!!!

Caddo Gap first responders went to the Albert Pike Rec Area to search for missing hiker Matt Teeters on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026. We were unable to locate him and ceased searching at 2:00 am this morning due to safety concerns created by the terrain for our search parties. There is an effort underway this morning to locate Teeters. Photos of Teeters taken in the last two days are posted below. We would like to thank everyone that reached out to volunteer their time to help search the area. We would like to thank our US Forest Service Leo, Montgomery County Deputies, Monty Bartex for drone services, our own responders-Jim Jackson and Kaison Snyder, and Kaison’s wife, Destiny for aiding in the ground search, and Monty Coffman, Caddo Gap Fire Chief, for running the search operation. We know what you are thinking: "We just got four-plus inches of rain, my yard is a swamp, and I need a canoe to get to the mailbox. Surely I can burn that brush pile now?" Nice try, but the Brun ban is still in effect.

Here is the deal: Arkansas weather is about to do what Arkansas weather does best. The sun and heat are returning with a vengeance, and that top layer of grass, leaves, and pine needles is going to dry out faster than a puddle in July. Give it five minutes of high heat and a light breeze, and all those ground fuels will be right back to "tinderbox" status.
