Fresh news from the Quad Cities Clean Energy Station fish hatchery…

Lake sturgeon, an Illinois-endangered species that can live more than 100 years, are on their way back into Illinois waters thanks to the Lake Sturgeon Recovery Program. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the fish hatchery at the Quad Cities nuclear power plant are releasing lake sturgeon with the goal of restoring self-sustaining, naturally reproducing lake sturgeon populations in Illinois waters. The hope is that in doing so, one day they will achieve the long-term goal of removing the species from the state endangered list. Today we got a behind-the-scenes look at Constellation’s fish hatchery at Quad Cities Clean Energy Center. We missed the spawning event by one reservation and those fish were quickly re-oxygenated then sent back out to the river. Check out the pictures of the facility, female walleye in holding and the fertilized eggs from this morning.

We are the newest club at BHS, approved at the March school board meeting. The list of potential activities is incredibly long and will change with the season.
