Big thanks to all the dedicated volunteers who joined us for the Weld Park Volunteer Day on May 18th! Together, ONAA volunteers planted an impressive 300 White Oak and Shagbark Hickory saplings in the open savanna and woodland areas, a significant step towards fulfilling our 5-year natural area restoration plan adopted by the county board in 2023. These trees, made possible by the Nicor Gas environmental stewardship grant, mark a meaningful contribution to the park's ecosystem.

In addition to our ONAA volunteers, others lent a hand with trail maintenance, removing non-native species along Black Walnut Creek, and general park cleanup. Your collective effort truly makes a difference!

We invite everyone to come explore Weld Park this season and share your adventures with us. Let's continue to nurture and celebrate our beautiful natural spaces together!

Spring is happening at Weld Park! The understory clearing and that happened last spring during our volunteer work day has really opened up the woodland floor and the spring ephemerals have been revived. More work needs to be done and we will will have another work day coming on May 18th. We will continue to thin opportunistic trees and remove invasives. We have 250 white oak saplings to be planted throughout the park to help with oak regeneration now that we have a few areas of the understory clear. We hope to see you May 18th. Follow us and Friends of Weld Park for more information.
