Sorry we haven’t shared many updates the last few days—we’ve just been living in the moment.
One of the greatest gifts of this week has been getting to experience a little bit of island time. Slowing down, putting away the constant rush, and simply being present with one another has been such a gift. It’s been a good reminder that sometimes the best moments happen when we’re not focused on what’s next, but on the people God has placed right in front of us.
Over the last few days we’ve been busy harvesting castor beans, building beds, laying concrete, finishing doors and ceilings, and helping with lots of other projects around the village. Every project has been an opportunity to serve alongside an incredible community.
One of the highlights of the week was visiting Deaf Can and learning about the idea of Deaf Gain—the reminder that deafness is not something to be viewed only through the lens of loss, but that the Deaf community brings unique gifts, perspectives, language, and culture that enrich our world. It challenged us to see people through God’s eyes and to celebrate the ways He has uniquely created each of us.
We’ve also made so many new friends, learned more and more signs every day, and experienced a community that truly celebrates each person’s unique gifts. It has been a beautiful picture of what it looks like to recognize that every person is created in the image of God and has something valuable to offer.
Thank you so much for praying for our team. We are so grateful to be here and can’t wait to share more stories about everything God has been doing when we get home!
