Pictured below is Director John Knight, who was asked to serve as a panelist during the Summit. Knight highlighted the work of and lifted up the work already happening in our communities through other collaborative efforts and initiatives. We look forward to day two, tomorrow.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi will host the Safe Streets, Strong Teens Youth Town Hall on Wednesday, July 15th, at 10 a.m. at the Capitol Unit, located at 1450 W. Capitol St. in Jackson.

The youth led event will give teens an opportunity to share their voices, ask questions, and engage with community leaders about issues affecting their future. The discussion will be moderated by Representative J. Gibbs.

Community members are encouraged to attend and support local youth. RSVP by July 14th.

On Juneteenth, our youth had an incredible opportunity to learn about the birth of Jackson’s Civil Rights Movement from none other than Mr. Frank Figgers. We are incredibly grateful to him for imparting wisdom, history, and knowledge on our youth who are often written off or forgotten. Happy Juneteenth! is US History.

We had a chance to talk to youth yesterday about choices, consequences, accountability, and turning second chances into success for yourself, your family, and most importantly your community. But first, I had to let them know I’m not afraid to get eye level with them, toe to toe, and have fun too. Not bad for an ole man blessed to be approaching 50. Then we got serious and had a talk about some real things that can impact them and their peers beginning July 1. Can’t teach em if you can’t reach em. Can’t reach em if you don’t show them you care. Connect, then correct, then connect again.
