Over 100 Chatham County residents showed up earlier this month to learn about the Enbridge pipeline proposal that could cross the Haw River. Let your planning board know that a huge data center and a potential new methane gas pipeline aren't in your plans for the future of Chatham County.

Join the conversation with neighbors fighting to protect our waters. No trespassing. No surveying. No pipeline. Clean Water for North Carolina 7 Directions of Service Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League

Friday, May 22 through Sunday, May 24: Word of Caution ⚠️ Our weekly swim report samples were collected Thursday morning, before this weekend's much-needed rainfall, so they reflect water conditions prior to the storm. After a long stretch of hot, dry weather, the first significant rain event washes accumulated pollutants like oils from parking lots, animal waste from parks, fertilizers, pollen, and other debris from paved surfaces directly into our rivers. This means bacteria and pollutant levels in your favorite swim spots may be significantly higher than our current samples indicate.

We recommend holding off on swimming for the next few days while levels stabilize, and we'll continue monitoring as conditions improve. **You can access our results every Friday on our website, in our e-newsletter (PLEASE SHARE!), and on Facebook and Instagram.

💡💡🔌💸 NC Senate Bill 730 "Ratepayer Protection Act” is moving through committee and we broadly support its intent. However, there is a significant gap: the bill does not regulate surface water withdrawals. A data center could still run a pipe directly into a river and draw water without restrictions.

🔺🔺🔺 Three air permit applications for hyperscale data centers are already pending in NC: Amazon in Richmond County, Compass in Iredell County, and Enovum in Rockingham County. Counties without a moratorium have no tools to protect their communities or their water resources.
This bill is a step in the right direction. The river needs it to go further. ➡️
