THIS SATURDAY! The Haw River has a lot to say, and our RiverWatch volunteers are the ones who listen. 🌊
Our community scientists wade in 4x a year to document what’s living in the river. When we find something off, we investigate and let the right people know.
Ready to become a guardian of your local stream? Join us Saturday, June 6 (10 AM – 12 PM) for RiverWatch Training, right before our next macroinvertebrate collection.
(What’s a macroinvertebrate? Tiny critters that give us clues about the health of the Haw. Check out to find out.)

⚠ 🚬🥤🍾🧋⚽️More than 121,000 items (and counting) collected across our Trash Trap network so far.
🔎 Our South Buffalo Creek team in Greensboro just cleaned out their traps after recent heavy rains. 91% of what our Greensboro traps collect are styrofoam and plastic. Want to join one of our teams? WE’RE BACK WITH MACRO MONDAYS! 🪱 Meet Class Oligochaeta - our aquatic worm indicators! These fascinating creatures have evolved some remarkable adaptations. Did you know they can absorb oxygen through their entire body surface? Also, unlike many stream critters, these worms don’t undergo metamorphosis - baby worms just look like tiny versions of adults!

Want to learn to identify aquatic worms and other macroinvertebrates yourself? In celebration of Guilford Creek Week, our next River Watch Training takes place at Northeast Park in Gibsonville on Saturday, June 6 from 10 AM to 12 PM. New teams are welcome and a refresher session is available for existing volunteers. 💙
