Early voting is open now, and it closes at 3pm on October 31. Election Day is November 3, with polls open 6:30am to 7:30pm. On all THREEconstitutional amendments, we’re voting NO. They would limit how your county and city can fund local water protections, weaken enforcement for environmental violations, and could cut state funding for water system maintenance and PFAS testing. Your tap water and your watershed are on the ballot. Check your registration, pick your voting method, make a plan with a friend, and bring your list. Blake Tedder’s Ode to the River: A Storyteller’s Song 🎶 This Summer, we had the privilege of hearing Blake Tedder perform in Saxapahaw at our Summertime fundraiser event. As a musician also, I was interested about Blake's perspective. How might we all begin to see and treat the Haw River as a living being?

Blake's cast his lyrics like a prayer out over Saxapahaw Lake to a bunch of people quietly listening in boats. The water is a great monitor, too, echoing music back to the shoreline. You floating folks came because you love the Haw River. We know the River was listening too. ❗This project would cause irreparable harm to the Haw, Deep, and Rocky rivers. This resolution is only part of the fight.

📍 With our experience fighting other fracked-gas pipelines like the Mountain Valley Pipeline and the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project, we know a resolution is only a stepping stone.
📯 Our ask: The Chatham Board of Commissioners must now send their resolution to the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) and ask for a clear demonstration of specific public need and a full alternatives analysis examined by Enbridge. This must occur BEFORE the permit processes associated with this project. ‼️ We call on our local elected leaders to work closely with state leadership in representing the interests of their constituents. Senator Natalie Murdock, Representative Robert Reives, and others, please ensure that we exhaust every single opportunity to stop this pipeline.

A resolution of opposition needs to have strong follow-through actions behind it. Fighting our way through the state and federal permitting process without strong Board of Commissioners support will place us at a grave disadvantage.

📜 The recent federal decision to revoke protections that classify habitat destruction as "harm" to endangered species shows a very troubling bias. It favors development over environmental preservation.
🦅 These safeguards were set up to protect vulnerable ecosystems and prevent unchecked industrial expansion. Now, actions like filling, clearing, or muddying streams by industrial development, which are devastating to species like the Cape Fear Shiner and yellow lamp mussel, may no longer violate the Endangered Species Act unless they directly kill or injure an animal.
🏗 This shift prioritizes short-term economic gains over the long-term survival of our planet’s biodiversity. Animal species are already disappearing at a scary rate. Weakening these protections is not just reckless; it is a betrayal of the delicate balance that sustains life itself. Our fight now turns to remaining regulatory hurdles. We know that when profit outweighs preservation, we all lose. ⌛️

Doesn't it p**s you off that plastic recycling infrastructure sucks? We agree. Let's fix that. 💥 Each month in our local creeks, we pick so many plastic bottles out of our Trash Traps. So many people recycle religiously, but everyone knows the system needs an overhaul. Plastic is a global problem. ♻ ♻ ♻ Have you ever heard of a "bottle deposit"? You've read it on your bottles, 10 cents in certain states. Let's make NC the next state! 💚 ✊ Stop subsidizing plastic companies' waste stream with our pocketbooks. Bottle bills make it economically inefficient to throw bottles away. They reduce litter by 70 to 80%, generate millions for the state, and free up landfill space. Support HB978.
