AFGE Local 2814 President Hoose and Secretary-Treasurer Smith had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Rick Larsen, Ranking Member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.

These conversations are critical to making sure our voices are heard on Capitol Hill. Congressman Larsen plays a key role in shaping transportation policy and funding decisions that directly affect our members, our agency’s mission, and the safety and reliability of the nation’s rail system.

By building strong relationships with lawmakers, we ensure that the issues that matter most to federal employees such as fair pay, adequate staffing, safe workplaces, and the tools we need to serve the public remain front and center.

We’re in Washington, D.C. this week on Capitol Hill speaking with congressional staff about the issues that matter most to federal employees and the communities we serve.

Fair pay and adequate staffing aren’t just union issues — they’re public issues. When federal employees are supported with the resources, staffing, and respect we need, the public benefits from safer communities, safer railroads, fewer derailments, and less disruption to the services people rely on every day.

Our goal is simple: to help lawmakers understand the realities of our work — the challenges we face, the progress we’ve made, and how decisions made here impact workers and the public every day.
