This is sad this kind of thing happens. There have been several wildfires in the area (we had been on 3), which are a challenge enough, so we don’t need any responders put in further danger (thankfully no one was injured). Thank you to all who were involved to bring this guy in.

Daniel Pettit, 48, is charged with two felonies — second-degree assault and intentional discharge of a firearm. He remains in the St. Louis County jail.

After being called on three fires in the last two days and with the winds and dry condition, it will remain high until we get rain. You see a tree on a powerline or see smoke anywhere be sure and call 911. Better safe than sorry.

Due to dry conditions, high winds, and low humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, May 16, for parts of central and northeast Minnesota.

While the Red Flag Warning is in effect:
❌ Don’t burn brush and yard debris!
❗️Campfires are discouraged in the are where Red Flag Warnings are in effect
⚠️Be extra cautious with outdoor activities that could produce heat or a spark. Campfires are discouraged.
👀Check ash piles from wood-burning stoves or heaters and any recent fire for lingering heat. Embers can stay hot for days, even months, and rekindle in Red Flag conditions. If you find heat, drown with water, stir, and repeat until it's out COLD.

Back to back fires today - Beitz Road and assistance to Nett Lake. Please be careful - these winds can take a little spark and turn it to a big fire in no time.
