We've been sitting on this news for a while and today we finally get to share it.

The Covellite Theatre Stained Glass Restoration Project officially launches today. Three original stained glass windows from this building's 1896 construction as a Presbyterian church are getting restored and reinstalled, and we couldn't be more grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.

These windows have a story. They were removed in the 1980s, sent to Helena for restoration, cared for by Father Dan Hillen until his passing, and eventually located and donated back to the theatre by a previous building owner. They've been safely stored here in Butte for over 20 years waiting for this moment.

With $21,000 already in from SARTA, work began in June. We're raising the remaining $74,000 to finish the job by August 25th.

If you've ever walked through these doors or felt something special about this building, this is a chance to be part of preserving it for the next generation.

Please prepare one short monologue, no more than two minutes long. Feel free to prepare your own, or use options from below.

A villain snippet from the Magnus Archives by Jonny Sims:
"Why does a man seek to destroy the world? It’s a simple enough answer: for immortality and power. Uninspired, perhaps, but – my god. The discovery, not simply of the dark and horrible reality of the world in which you live, but that you would quite willingly doom that world and confine the billions in it to an eternity of terror and suffering, all to ensure your own happiness, to place yourself beyond pain and death and fear. It is an awful thing to know about yourself, but the freedom, John, the freedom of it all. I feel… nothing but satisfaction in that choice. I am to be the king of a ruined world, and I shall never die. I believe there are far more people in this world that would take that bargain than you would ever guess. And I have beaten all of them. Don’t worry, John. You’ll get used to it here, in the world that we have made. Look at the sky. It’s looking back."

A person from Mars describes Earth in this snippet from Generation Red by Alexander Utz :
"I imagine — that being at a school dance must be so different from what you see in movies. I imagine that it’s really confusing, and there would be a lot going on, but it would be fun, maybe? It would be a good time, I think, with all the music and lights and all your friends there dancing. I imagine I’d want to get it right, I’d want to do everything right, but I have no idea what that would mean. I imagine driving at night through a familiar neighborhood. I imagine it must be comforting to see everyone’s individual houses and to see all the lights on. It must be like each one has its own personality, just like the people inside. I imagine being outside late at night must be special, I imagine it to be quiet and peaceful and freeing. Do you ever think of what the night sky must look like from Earth? I can picture the moon up there, bright and clean and close. I’m so used to seeing it there in movies, this big benign dot in the night sky. It’s comforting, in a way. I don’t know."

The Players are ready to take the stage for opening night tonight ❤️
But there’s something about that first dress rehearsal audience - seeing the embodiment of our childhood, all our dreams and hopes and wishes for ourselves, and hoping we’ve made our younger selves proud 🥹❤️

The Covellite Players are officially in Tech Week! 🎭✨

That means long rehearsals, 10000000 costume changes, lighting cues, last-minute adjustments, and so much excitement as we bring this show to life. Every member of our cast and crew has been pouring their hearts into creating something special, and it’s incredible to see all the pieces finally coming together.

We are so proud to present The Power of Pride on June 20th: a moving journey through music, storytelling, and the moments that have shaped and strengthened our community. While there is plenty of joy, celebration, and nostalgia throughout the evening, this production is also a powerful and heartfelt tribute to those affected by the AIDS epidemic. It is a chance to honor lives, remember stories that must never be forgotten, and celebrate the resilience, courage, and love that continue to inspire generations.

Whether you’ve been supporting local theatre for years or this will be your very first show, we’d love to have you join us for an evening filled with laughter, reflection, remembrance, and hope. 🌈💜

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout this process. Your encouragement means the world, and we can’t wait to share this important story with you.

Tell us in the comments: 80s and 90s songs do you hope to hear?? 🌈✨💋
