Butte Cares Invites Community to Celebrate 2026 Moving Mountains Award Recipients

BUTTE, Mont. — Butte Cares is proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 Moving Mountains Awards and invites friends, family members, colleagues, and community members to join us in celebrating these outstanding individuals and organizations who are making a positive difference across our community.

The Moving Mountains Awards were created to recognize those who exemplify the heart of prevention through leadership, service, compassion, and a commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and more connected community. These honorees remind us that meaningful change happens when people come together with purpose and care.

This year’s recipients represent the very best of our community—from youth leaders and educators to volunteers, organizations, and lifelong community champions. Together, they demonstrate that positive change is built through service, leadership, compassion, and connection.

A special Founder Award will be presented to Ron Davis in recognition of his lifelong commitment to community communication. As a trusted voice and storyteller, his work has helped inform, connect, and strengthen our community for generations.

Community members are encouraged to attend and show their support for these remarkable recipients whose dedication continues to move mountains throughout our region.

Congratulations to the Butte High Bulldogs and Butte Central Maroons, Class of 2026! 🎓

Over the past week, our community has celebrated two outstanding graduating classes as Butte Central and Butte High seniors crossed the stage and embarked on their next chapter.

As the celebrations continue, we want to recognize a tradition that has become a cornerstone of graduation season in Butte: the chemical-free All Night Graduation Parties.

What began in the early days of Butte Cares continues to thrive today thanks to the dedication of parents, volunteers, donors, businesses, and community members who come together each year to create safe, fun, and memorable celebrations for graduates.

These events represent prevention at its best. They provide young people with opportunities to celebrate their accomplishments, strengthen connections, and create lasting memories in an environment centered on safety, support, and community.

We are especially proud that this tradition remains strong decades later. While organized entirely by parents of graduating seniors, these events continue to be embraced and supported by an incredible community that believes our youth deserve a positive way to celebrate this important milestone.

To the parents, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this year’s celebrations possible, thank you. Your time, generosity, and commitment continue a legacy that has impacted generations of graduates.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. We are proud of all you have accomplished and excited for all that lies ahead.

Pictured are just a few happenings that helped make this year’s celebrations memorable for our graduates. Including another fav tradition, the "Be a Life Saver" reminder, which served as both a cute and tasty reminder that looking out for yourself and your friends can make all the difference during times of celebration.

As the school year wraps up, the fun days are coming in hot!

At Butte Cares, we love any opportunity to add a little extra color, excitement, and joy to the end of the school year. This year, we were proud to support the Color Runs organized by the PTOs at Hillcrest, Whittier, and Emerson Elementary.

These events take a tremendous amount of planning, fundraising, volunteer support, and coordination by each school’s PTO. We are grateful to play a small role in helping bring the color, fun, and excitement, but the credit truly belongs to the dedicated parents, volunteers, teachers, and school leaders who make these events happen for their students.

While bringing the magic requires a lot of energy and hard work, it is always worth it when we see the smiles, laughter, and memories being created.

If your school is considering a Color Run for next year, we encourage you to reach out sooner rather than later. We do our best to support as many schools as possible, but capacity can become a challenge, and early planning helps us ensure we can help where we’re needed most.

We love this work. We love the kids. We love this community.

Congratulations to Hillcrest, Whittier, and Emerson on another successful year, and thank you to every PTO member, teacher, volunteer, sponsor, and business that helped make these events possible. Your efforts create experiences students will remember long after the last color has washed away. 💜

Without further ado, we are excited to officially release this year’s Moving Mountains recipients.

This year, we received a total of 62 nominations. That final push for Youth nominations made decisions EXTREMELY difficult — and honestly, what a wonderful problem to have. This town is filled with incredible humans, and our future looks incredibly bright.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. Your compassion, leadership, service, and commitment to making our community better do not go unnoticed. We are honored to celebrate each of you.

Please join us for the 2026 Moving Mountains Award Ceremony:

Tonight was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community chooses to pour into its youth.

For many years now, Butte Cares has been incredibly proud to support Mariah’s Challenge and the mission behind it all. A mission rooted in prevention, hope, leadership, and creating safer, healthier futures for young people and families throughout our community. As an organization, we stand firm in the message to “Grow Old.” We love this community deeply, and we take immense pride in continuing to invest in the youth and families who make this place so special.

Tonight’s scholarship ceremony was filled with powerful reminders about grit, integrity, leadership, and the importance of the people we choose to surround ourselves with. One message shared by Joe McClafferty especially stood out… just how far a strong support system can take you in life. It truly matters who stands beside you.

Congratulations to all of the Class of 2026 recipients, along with the many recipients throughout the years who continue to carry these values forward into the world. Your community is proud of you.

A special shoutout as well to tonight’s wonderful MC, Paul Panisko, for helping make the evening so meaningful, and of course to Leo McCarthy, the heart behind it all. The impact of this work continues to ripple through generations here in Butte America.

We have received a WHOPPING 33 Moving Mountains nominations, which is absolutely incredible 💙

BUT… only ONE nomination so far has been for an actual youth.

And I KNOW there are some amazing students in this community showing up for their peers, helping others, leading with kindness, volunteering, overcoming challenges, and quietly doing really good things every single day.

If you know a high school student (or younger) deserving of recognition, NOW is the time to nominate them.

Let’s make sure our youth know they are seen, valued, and appreciated too 💙

Nomination window will stay open until Friday. SHARE AWAY. Link in the comments.

Some days are loud. Some days are heavy. Some days just take more out of us than others.

Give yourself permission to slow down, check in, and take care of your mind the same way you would your body. Healing, growth, and wellness are not one size fits all, and you do not have to figure it all out alone 💙
