The Clark Chateau is open for tours. You can schedule a tour online at www.clarkchateau.org if you have reached us outside of walk-in hours. A. Clark.

For rental inquiries please email [email protected] The Clark Chateau was constructed in 1898-1899 for Charles and Katherine Clark, oldest son of Copper King W. The house served as a private residence to such notable Butte families as the Largeys and the Murrays, as well as the Butte College of Music, the Fez Club, and the home of the Butte Arts Foundation. Today it is home to the Butte Symphony, Montana's oldest symphony orchestra, and The Root & The Bloom Collective, a nonprofit humanities organization which supports the programming at the Clark Chateau.

Currently on display at the Clark Chateau through December 19th: I Await the Devil’s coming, a show by Courtney Blazon.

Blazon illustrates on vellum every page of Mary MacLane’s 1902 book I Await the Devil’s Coming. Through the slow process of reading and drawing, Blazon creates a visual companion to MacLane’s writing, responding page by page.

On loan from the Butte Archives, these chairs came from MacLane’s family home on Excelsior Street in Butte. Come visit gallery, flip through Blazon’s copy of the book and see how each page comes to life.

We are just a month away from our Halloween Murder mystery party!

Butte Halloween and the Clark Chateau are excited to host - Murder Behind the Mirror- a murder mystery game produced by Butte Halloween.

Join us Saturday September 19th at 2pm for a poetry reading with Mark Gibbons. Mark will read from his new poetry collection, Word Salad. There will be books available for purchase and light refreshments served.

Mark Gibbons received an MFA in creative writing from the University of Montana. He’s taught poetry in some form for forty years and was involved with Poetry Out Loud for its first two decades. Word Salad, debuting summer 2026, is Mark’s fourteenth collection of poetry, the sixth from FootHills Publishing. He served as the 10th Montana Poet Laureate from 2021-2023.

Big things are happening at the Chateau! We were extremely fortunate to receive a Superfund Advisory and Redevelopment Trust Authority (SARTA) and a Foundation for Montana History grant to restore our exterior windows and soffits. This work is essential to preserving our historic facade for generations to come.

The Clark Chateau is honored to host “I Await the Devil’s Coming”- a show by Courtney Blazon, opening Friday September 4th.

Courtney Blazon is a Missoula-based artist and illustrator known for her intricate, narrative-driven drawings that blend symbolism, mythology, natural history, and surreal storytelling, as well as for her contributions to the regional arts community. A graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, Blazon has built a multidisciplinary career spanning fine art, illustration, public art, and arts advocacy. Her work has been exhibited widely across the United States, including at the Missoula Art Museum, Radius Gallery and galleries in New York, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.

Blazon illustrates on vellum every page of Mary MacLane’s 1902 book I Await the Devil’s Coming. Through the slow process of reading and drawing, Blazon creates a visual companion to MacLane’s writing, building a record of the experience page by page.

Join us Wednesday September 30th from 6-7pm to kick of the Festival of Irish Writing with Dear Butte and The Corner Bookstore to discuss Life Sentences by Billy O’Callaghan. Billy O’Callaghan will be in Butte later that week, and a full list of festival events can be found at dearbutte.org.

Thanks to Sean Keuch for teaching a great lesson on perspective for our high school internship program today!

We learned about one and two point perspective, drew some Butte buildings outside, and focused on the intricate details and corners of our fourth floor ballroom.
