The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has established the Futures Committee to broaden knowledge, strengthen engagement, and inspire members throughout our great Union.

This committee offers opportunities to participate in classes both in person and virtually—designed to help you grow as an informed union member and prepare for potential leadership roles within our movement.

We encourage every member to explore the available courses and get involved. Local 2 has a proud legacy built on strong leadership and an even stronger membership. By continuing to learn, stay informed, and support one another, we preserve that legacy and help shape an even stronger future for our Union.

Butte’s Union History: Built in Blood, Backbone, and Solidarity

Butte didn’t just mine copper — it mined courage. These two moments tell the story of a city that refused to bow to corporate power.

In 1917, IWW organizer Frank Little came to Butte during one of the most explosive periods in American labor history. Two weeks later, he was abducted and lynched from the Milwaukee Railroad trestle. His funeral became one of the largest public demonstrations the city had ever seen — thousands of workers standing shoulder‑to‑shoulder, refusing to be intimidated.
That’s Butte.

Fast‑forward to 1967, when Montana’s longest and costliest copper strike shut down the Anaconda Company for 258 days. Miners lost millions in wages, but they held the line anyway. No end in sight, no backing down.
That’s also Butte.

These aren’t just events — they’re proof of what working people can do when they stand together. Butte’s union history isn’t a chapter. It’s a backbone. 💪
