Butte Meadows Hillsliders Snowmobile Club

Butte Meadows Hillsliders Snowmobile Club website: http://hillsliders.com
location: http://goo.gl/maps/okKb9 The Butte Meadows Hillsliders Club is a nonprofit organization.

Our members volunteer time, effort and money to promote snowmobiling and related causes. Through their efforts, over 30 plus years, we have been able to obtain one of the area’s most premier warming hut facilities. Also provide some of the best maintained trail systems around. Our grooming program and operators are recognized for the high quality riding trails, by not only riders but by the forest

service also. In our local area the club is solely responsible for all maintenance of the trail system. This includes maintenance on the groomers, fuel, clearing of the roads, cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, and last but not least up keep of our amazing warming hut!! The club raises money through our annual Poker Run and through grant monies. With this money we are in charge of clearing the road from the green gate just above Butte Meadows (where the county stops) to the parking lot and the groomer shed. We are one of the only independent snowmobile clubs in the nation, that has their own groomer and does all of the grooming with their own funding. We also pay for road clearing out of our club money! Our club members communicate with State and Federal Agencies, Legislators, and Regulators in order to keep our areas open for everyone to enjoy! This includes non-snowmobilers also. Please look into joining our club, with your membership dues we are able to keep and maintain such an amazing program!

Well, it’s been a while, but we finally got some snow. I took the Bully out and it was soft and deep, so much that it was working so hard I didn’t make it very far. I got to Humbug Summit. Parking lot to J-4 to Trail “I “to onto J-5 up to almost the summit on Trail “F” turned around back to J-5 and out on Sunflower Loop and took a snow measurement 190CM no tracks beyond the flat so I turned around and headed back to the Shed. Snow needs to set up a little more to be able to Groom over the Summits. There is a good 4-6 feet of fresh powder everywhere. Groomer Dan in the Bomb will try to get out on Saturday, we know there will be a lot of people out on Saturday. So be careful and lookout for the Groomer. I will be back out on Monday with the Bully.

It’s been a week with no snow and the forecast doesn’t look too promising. Neither Machine has been out since the 15th, and I don’t have a recent report of the condition of the trails. If anybody has been out and can send me an email or text, I would appreciate it. I also wanted to thank all the current paid members. I received all the mail in Member forms from Zack and updated the data base. As for the Poker run, we are looking for volunteers and a chairperson to head that up. Sorry for the sad news, we need to start doing our “SNOW DANCE” to save our Season.

Both the Bully and the Bomb went out today, we took J-4 to Trail I and the Bully turned at J-5 on to Sunflower Loop Trail G on to remove some trees and smooth out the Bumps, if you rode it, you know how bad it was. The Bomb continued up from J-5 to Humbug Summit on Trail F to J-6 and turned on 26N31 (the Short Cut) to start clearing trees on that route. The Bully was on the same Trail coming from the other side. We meet somewhere in the middle, and both turned around and headed back to J-5 and J-6. There were 20-30 trees down and some too big to remove so we buried them, and others we where able to push out of the way. We haven’t got to the longer loop of Trail G that goes to J-7 Humbug Road (307) Trail E. We need more snow before we go out again. We got fuel delivered and both Groomers are ready for next storm.

Took the Bully out today to remove the downed trees on the trails. To J-4 to J-5 Trail I to Trail F up over Humbug Summit on to J-6 to Trail D to the Warming Hut and back on Trail D down to J-9 there where 50 plus trees down between Warming Hut and J-10 Fanani Meadows. Continued Trail C all the way to Highway 89 and back to J-10 and up Trail B to Ruffa Ranch where there were 30-40 trees in about 100 yards Continued up to Humboldt Summit and found more trees to remove. It was a long day, but the loop has been Groomed, and all the trees have been removed. There are some thin spots where the trees were removed so be careful.

I know it’s been a while, but welcome to 2026. The Bully went out on Tuesday and cleaned up the parking lot and then headed out to the Warming Hut on Trail B to the Y at J-4 on to Trail I to J-5 Sunflower Loop. When I got to Snag Lake turn off there was no Snowmobile tracks beyond that point, The bully was tracking almost 3 feet of wet heavy snow and started to get a little warm. As most of you know I do not like Grooming the trail that nobody has tracked up. I like to give the opportunity to the Powder Hounds to break trail and it’s a lot easier for the Groomer to smooth out. So, I turned around and double tracked back to J-4 and headed up to Humboldt Summit on Trail B to Groom Robbers Roost and down the switch backs. There are several trees down that we still must deal with. I am going to recruit some help, Too many large trees for the Bully to push out of the way.
The snow is very thin below 5800-foot elevation so be careful. I got a few Pic’s.

Bully Recovery Mission, as you may know if you rode over the weekend the Bully was broke down in the middle of the trail at Scott Johns Creek. We headed back up on Monday with some help. Thanks to Dan, Jessie and Ryan we where able to get the Bully kind of running and get it back to the shed. We had to pull it with Bomb due to a bad fuel line that would only let it idle. Parts have been ordered and it will be fully repaired in a few days. We are still waiting on more snow to come so we can get out and Groom, there is very little snow at the Jonesville Parking lot and the trail up to the Y is in bad shape. But after that it gets better as you go up in elevation, snow up above 6000 feet is pretty decent.
