i was told many times their was no american legion post in Silas, Alabama, yes their was post 48 in Silas Alabama. a post was to be installed in gilbertown, but was not, a post in gilbertown would take away from post 48 and post 81, this was the reason i have have copy's of both post if you would like a copy, call post 81 adjutant. Richard Allen, [email protected], office 1-205-459-2186, work 1-334-239-6002. american legion post 81 should be up and running very soon, work each Tuesday with help from members. yes plans are in the works to build a military park out front of post. what we need from all family's of all wars and none wars. names of all veterans, what war, names will be placed on stones out front. (needed a copy of 214 form military history, re a letter to Richard Allen, 3865 riderwood, Dr. butler, AL. 36904, stating it’s OK for him to see your records.
post 81 has a back account. (park account) we have some money in this account now, we just had our first american legion post 81 rodeo fund raiser, this money will be placed in the park account. work has begun on this park now. WW-1 some 1000 men, WW-2 some 2600, Korea some 900, Vietnam some 800, national guard who were not on federal duty.
the information needed now is help from the people of Choctaw county, names of persons fro WW-1, WW-2, Korea, Vietnam, and gulf. (copy of 214 form, if you dont have one, you may get one from probate office, or you may ail letter or note saying i can see their records. this information will help with the park.
