Attending the World Parkinson Congress a few weeks ago left a lasting impact on us. Parkinson's can be an isolating disease for the individual diagnosed and their families. Experiencing the closeness and connectivity of individuals from all over the world feeling seen, heard, and appreciated all in one place was very moving. We are all in this PD journey together: researchers, clinicians, non-profits, caregivers, People with PD.

Have you attended a WPC? Would you be interested in going to Quebec City in 2029? Tell us in the comments below ⬇️

We appreciate Ryan Reynolds for sharing his father's story and shedding light on hallucinations in Parkinson's. Many experiencing hallucinations go untreated and don't talk to their doctor. Now you can. Learn more about treatment options at moretoparkinsons.com

Did you know exercise is the best medicine for Parkinson's? 🥊Boxing🥊 has become one of the most popular forms of exercise for people with PD. Boxing benefits include:

✔️ Improved Balance & Gait: Boxing drills improve core strength and posture, which helps prevent shuffling and reduces fall risks.
✔️ Better Hand-Eye Coordination & Agility: Hitting heavy bags and working with mitts improve reaction time, reflexes, and overall motor control.
✔️ Increased Strength: It builds upper body strength and lower extremity power, helping patients navigate daily functional tasks more independently.
✔️ Mental Sharpness: The complex sequences of footwork and punching combinations require intense focus, stimulating the brain and fighting cognitive decline.
✔️ Socialization: Being around others with PD can put you at ease and be able to open up and build new friendships.

There are some 🆕*NEW*🆕 boxing opportunities at:
- The Conn-Greb Boxing Club in the Strip District
- YMCA Wellness Center at St. John Arena in Steubenville
- Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford

Consider joining on of these new boxing programs! There are plenty of other great existing boxing programs in the area. See our full list of in-person exercise classes including boxing classes here: https://pfwpa.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PD-Exercise-Classes.pdf?blm_aid=595892225

Are you or someone you know a caregiver looking for tips to help balance everything? Join us on Wednesday, June 10th at 7:00pm EST virtual via Zoom for this informative webinar. 💻🫶

ABOUT THE WEBINAR:

Caregivers spend so much time focused on everyone else that their own well-being often gets pushed aside. The stress, mental overload, emotional weight, and constant responsibility of caregiving can leave even the strongest caregivers exhausted and running on empty. In this encouraging and practical webinar, wellness educator and caregiver advocate Jennifer Antkowiak will share realistic ways caregivers can reduce stress, protect their emotional and physical well-being, and create small moments of relief and renewal in everyday life, without adding more pressure to an already full schedule. Participants will walk away with simple tools to calm overwhelm, restore energy, feel more supported, and care for themselves while continuing to care for others.

We are excited to have another webinar with Sterling Painton of Sterling Yoga share a few simple strengthening and stretching techniques to keep our upper body feeling balanced. We will focus/observe the differences between the right and left sides of our body and talk about how these imbalances from side-to-side effect our balance. But with a few simple moves, you can start feeling safe and balanced, which keeps us living a long independent life. 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️🧘

If you enjoyed our conference keynote speaker, Dr. Robert Cochrane, you should join us on for a screening of his third film in his award-winning documentary series, ⚾️Boys of Summer: Short Stop⚾️, on Sunday, May 17th at The Lindsay Theater in Sewickley at 1pm. The film is 53 minutes long and we will have a live Q & A with Robert after the screening. Tickets are $8.75/person. This is a great film for all! Bring your family and friends!

🎬Short Stop is the third film in the award-winning documentary series. Director Robert Cochrane and his father, Dan Cochrane, who has Parkinson's disease (PD), began their journey in 2004, road tripping 20,000 miles in two months to see a game at each of the 30 Major League Baseball parks. Since then, they've chronicled the changes in baseball, their family and how to live with the greatest quality of life in the face of a chronic illness with no cure. The film explores what happens between the big moments, capturing quiet struggles, inside jokes, the value of improvisation and the unspoken weight of time passing. Short Stop is an active meditation on love, limits, and what it means to keep showing up.

PFWPA is proud to be a Run for a Reason Charity in the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon the weekend of May 2-3, 2026. We have over 60 charity runners signed up to represent PFWPA and raise money for the local Parkinson's community! Today we are highlighting one of our inspiring runners, Tyler Tyburski! 🏃‍➡️

Tyler has Parkinson's close to his heart. Sadly, his family experienced a PD loss earlier this year. He has harnessed his connection to the disease into motivation to run for this community and recently hosted a fundraiser at his local Fraternal Order of Eagles. He had a group of supporters and family helping bartend and sell t-shirts, and serve food. There was even someone DJ-ing for free! It was quite the event! He raised $1,935.00! Incredible! 👏

Tyler said, "It was one of those days where generosity just kept showing up. It was fun, it was busy, it was meaningful… and by the end my heart was full! A lot of people walked away on Saturday with a better understanding of how tough Parkinson’s is — but also with a real appreciation for the incredible work PFWPA does."

We are so appreciative of Tyler's support and moved by his passion to help this community. Thank you, Tyler! ❤
