On 6/10, CAWP participated in Future Road Builders/Ladder of Opportunity, a workforce recruitment event hosted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Contractor representatives from S&B USA Construction - Fay, Gulisek Construction, and Independence Excavating served on an industry panel alongside the WPA Operating Engineers JATP, PennDOT representatives, and PennDOT’s On-the-Job Training (OJT) Supportive Services.

Students from Introduction to the Trades and the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh learned how to begin a career in the heavy/highway construction industry, explored various job opportunities, and gained insight into the skills and expectations required to become successful craftworkers.

CAWP Executive Director Rich Barcaskey shared information about Future Road Builders and the Apprenticeship Readiness Course to further their understanding of the construction industry, the union perspective, and how to begin a career in heavy/highway construction.

CAWP extends a special thank you to Matt Allanson of Independence Excavating, Clayton Stahl of Gulisek Construction, Chuck Zugell of Fay S&B USA Construction, and Steve Koleno of the Western PA Operating Engineers Apprenticeship and Training Program for contributing to the panel discussion! 👏
