A week ago today our April Open House welcomed some new visitors as well as some folks who have stopped by before, in recent months, not to mention some "regular" attendees who enjoy sharing coffee and stories of old Bushkill and listening to others' memories. In spite of the cold and nasty weather, it was a cozy afternoon inside the museum.
PS. Be on the lookout for some of our upcoming events: Our first annual Yard Sale on May 23! Very exiting and not to be missed. We have an upcoming exhibit from the old post office in the works, including the reading by one of our members of a draft of the speech given on the retirement of Bushkill's longtime post mistress. You can be sure to hear stories as well from our last Bushkill post- office employee before it was closed by the Park Service, along with letters and items that passed through her hands.
Also soon to be announced, there will be a round table presented by several members who were the initiators and developers (or whose parents were) of the Pine Ridge Community. You'll want to hear about the property when it was privately owned and lived on, the history of the area itself, and some memories of Pine Ridge from its inception, directly from the persons who lived it. Last but not least, we will be having a presentation of the story of Brisco Mountain woodworking that employed residents who created beautiful hand-worked items from lamps to kitchen items and decorative pieces in the mid-century through 1978, as well as a salt/pepper mill that was invented there and now used in restaurants all over the country.
Also, we have a brand new sign, thanks to the generosity and hard work of Steve Schoonover and his Out of the Wood Shop. We are thrilled. Hoping for some warmer days ahead before the heat bears down on us. Keep liking us on fb and watching for presentation and exhibit dates!
