Hello to All. Happy Fall. With the beautiful foliage that's all around us, it's a perfect time to take a nice Sunday drive up to the museum for a few hours to our October Open House. Nestled in the woodlands of Bushkill, the colorful trees that line Route 209 and the Milford Road hide the memory of the many homes and businesses that kept Bushkill thriving for over two hundred years. One of the very few still standing is the post office building that you see coming up the road to Bushkill Falls.
This Sunday, October 18th, we will have an exhibit of the Bushkill post office along with a round table conversation about the local people who worked there and the history of the post office. You'll enjoy hearing one of its last employees, our own Sarah Mae Ace, share some stories and answer questions about a unique way of life that is easily pictured when our discussion group talks about the heydays of Bushkill that centered around the post office. You can see letters and post cards from decades past that were posted or received there. Items from the Bushkill Postal Department will be on exhibit and, one of our members, Steve Schoonover, will read a letter written in 1958 that highlights some of the unusual responsibilities that a village postal worker performed from the 1920's to the 1950's. A great slice of a day in the life, in a village that was and is very special. Kathy (Smith) Mitchell, an avid supporter of our museum, will join in the discussion and share some stories of her father's days as the Bushkill Post Master.
Come and join us for light snacks, coffee and conversation; learn about a fascinating era in Bushkill, share your own stories and browse interactive exhibits. Take home an old post card of your own!

What an amazing day yesterday was. In addition to Kate’s fabulous presentation, we took a moment to honor our founding members. Congratulations and thank you!! We are so appreciative of what you have accomplished, and are so glad that you created a platform where we continue to keep Bushkill’s history alive.

REMINDER: Our September reunion is coming up next Sunday, September 20th. Our featured speaker will be Kate Morton from Barnard College in NYC. She interviewed numerous villagers who were displaced by the Tocks Island project about their experience. The responses to Kate's inquiries of how Tocks Island affected their lives and the Bushkill Village environment, were used in a Grant project about the effects of eminent domain. Kate will share her findings with us, and give a slide presentation and Q & A/sharing period. Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of it all!

Today, we join with fellow citizens of our country in remembering with respect and grace, the family and friends who lost their lives twenty-five years ago today, in the attacks on our United States. And we remember also, those who have continued to suffer and die from the toxins ingested while selflessly helping at the sites, at grave risk to their own lives. May we still be that America that runs toward those who need help, and that stands united in times of peril. God bless America.

A successful yard sale that was lots of fun along with the hard work of everyone involved. Kudos to the many members who worked so diligently to put it all together, and to clean it all up!!!
