Water 4 Wildlife

Water.......water is an integral part in the survival of all living beings. Without it death would be imminent. This is not only true for humans but also the wildlife that you may or may not see around you! For an ecosystem to function successfully all the important parts must be present, this includes sources of water.

Providing wildlife, in your area, with water is not an extremely time consuming or hard task. A bit of forethought allows for successful placement and care of water sources without disturbing your normal, daily routines. And as a bonus allows you to enjoy the aesthetics and calming of the beautiful beings that surround you.

In the urban setting providing a water source such as a bird bath, a dish (3" deep or less) on the ground, or even a decorative fountain can aid and even add beauty to a landscape setting. The key is to try and put them in a shaded, yet open area, if possible. In addition, i0t is super important to keep them clean. Clean watering sources prevent any unwanted pests such as mosquitos from completing a life cycle and becoming a nuisance and prevents any spread of disease. Cleaning is pretty simple with the use of a vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 9 parts water). The routine is as easy as spray, wipe, rinse, refill and should be done 1-2 times a week.

With these simple suggestions you could not only be be aiding in saving the wildlife around you but also providing yourself with an aestheticly pleasing area where you can enjoy watching the wildlife. I am certain they will thank you!! Especially in this drought!
