Cousin checking in from the Poland/Ukraine border. As the war drags on, the need for refugee medical aid does too!
Cousin Andee’s message is: “If anybody has medical supply connections, please gather these supplies and reach out to us so we can figure out how to get the supplies here.”
Please spread the word if you have these connections and reach out!
Thank you so much! 💙❤️💚

PS. Video update about the Roma refugees situation on the border coming soon…

May 16th is a day of resilience, remembrance and resistance for the Romani people! No Roma died on May 16th at Auschwitz-Birkenau. On this day in 1944, 600 brave Romani workers did not show up for morning roll call, but instead barricaded themselves inside their barracks. They had been tipped off that they were to be executed. These courageous people broke into a nearby tool shed(s)and used the pickaxes & other instruments utilized during their enslaved labor as weapons. The nazi’s worried about a camp-wide revolt. And if you are familiar with the layout of Auschwitz-Birkenau, one can easily see how this might be concerning. The resistance fighters as well as thousands of other Roma in Auschwitz, were sent to other camps to divide them, and from historical record, the remaining were all gassed by August of that same year. There were 6000 Romani people at Auschwitz-Birkenau at this time. Auschwitz had a special camp section just for Romani, called “Zigeurnerlager”. Unfortunately, i am still feeling too sick & exhausted to write much more, as COVID has taken all of my energy. But, let us remember. Let us not forget! Let us resist racism. What I see here at home in the US, and in Ukraine and in the news— we are not learning from our past mistakes. My heart goes to victims of Buffalo, NY. It’s beyond time we started really targeting white supremacist terrorism and calling it out for what it is. These terrorists only prove to me just how real another holocaust is and will be. Hate infects.

The Holocaust effectively exterminated most of the Romani in Europe. Please take a moment of silence today to pay our respects to those 600+ courageous enough to stand up to the n***s and live another day! The ponds— please read the placard. The ashes of countless thousands are in there. The two photos of smashed building are the two major gas chambers at Auschwitz-Birkenau the n***s destroyed in order to deny any evidence of ethnic cleansing. .diklo

This is is not only a Canadian issue. I don’t know of any countries welcoming Roma refugees, even if some are able to slip across the border.

And despite Roma families being denied passage out of the Ukraine, despite rampant and persistent racism- many Roma have volunteered for the battle. They are still fighting for their country!

Never thought I would see the day!
Although this article notes the change of name request came in 2020, it was not a new request. The insect names have been long criticized. But with 2020 came a somewhat fresh look on how much racism and prejudice is inherent in our societies across the world. This is a small change but big or small, changes are welcomed. 🙏💛

Note: Not all Roma take offense to the term, “Gypsy” but many do. We would rather non-Roma NOT use this term in any case.
Using the slur to mean whatever someone of the dominant culture would like it to mean (based on fashion, lifestyle and other stereotypes), is very unwelcome. It further minimizes Roma as a people.

The Entomological Society of America says the common names for the two insects include a pejorative for Roma people. It's part of a wider effort to replace names that are inappropriate or offensive.

➡️ The tragic death of Stanislav Tomáš should be a wake-up call for European and national authorities that they need to get serious about policing and access to justice for Roma. However, the obfuscation, official denials and disparagement of the victim by the Prime Minister, as somebody who was not ‘normal or respectable’, suggest that Europe’s reckoning with racial justice is a long way off.

It’s a homemade film, but it’s pretty epic (special effects!) and we spent hundreds of hours making it from scratch, and we’re giving you English subtitles because it’s in Romani (Czech subtitles also available), so go to my bio, click on the link and share the hell out of this fairytale. Let’s show the kids their hard work paid off!

Romani-language fairytale by Elena Lacková, with original puppets, sets, and music by the Gelbarts. Additional songs by other Romani artists. Special effects...

To finish out the celebration of Kali Sara, it is the Super Flower Blood Moon lunar eclipse (Were you able to see it?)!!
What is your ritual for today? Will you pass the old stories of Kham and Shon down to the chavale?
There is a special energy in the day. Be present with it if you can.
I will go now because I’m starting to sound like my mother. 😂 💕🌚🌸🌝💕

TW: Last slide involves shooting.

Today marks the anniversary of “Victory in Europe Day”, the declared end of N**i occupation in 1945, when the German Third Reich surrendered. The death toll and conditions of survivors brought shock to the world, as the level of atrocity had mainly remained hidden. Exact numbers of victims are still unknown. In Lucy Dawidowicz’s “The War Against the Jews” (1975), she used prewar birth and death records to come up with the figure of 5,933,900 Jews that were killed, however this may not be an accurate number. WII scholars have estimated between 5 and 6.2 million Jews died in the Holocaust.
For Roma, the numbers are more varied and grossly underestimated officially. The official range is 250,000-500,000 but it has been estimated it to be as high as 1,500,000-2,000,000. Many scholars agree that 1,500,000 Roma/Sinti victims would seemingly be more accurate. We do know that it was roughly 75% of Europe’s Roma/Sinti population. There are no exact numbers for any of the other victims of the Holocaust either.
A big reason for this is because of camp prisoners that were referred to as “remainder to be liquidated”, “hangers-on” and “partisans”.
Mass roadside and village murders known as Einsatzgruppen by N**i mobile units are also a huge factor. Entire communities and family groups would be wiped out and and buried in large pits. Often these were dug by the communities that were going to be shot.
“Displaced Persons” camps housed displaced and sick victims until they could return home, achieve refugee status or immigrate elsewhere. Those who were not accepted back to their own country or to a new one remained in the camps until they were closed between 1947-1959. Rejected groups of people in these camps quite often were Roma, as no country cared to take them.
During the war, Roma/Sinti and Jews had shared bonds such as music, learning each other’s languages and customs to be taught to surviving younger generations.

In my vitsa, it is said to only visit Jewish doctors, as that shared history makes them the only ones trustable. ✨
