Sometimes they even courageously volunteer to help a neighboring community. They respond with compassion when tragedy affects us and they put their lives, jobs and families on hold to do so. It takes a great deal of physical stamina and mental strength to make this kind of commitment. Our Fire and EMS members do not ask a lot from us, but when an emergency transpires, they may need our support whe
ther it is food, drinks or supplies. Sometimes when it is all over, they may need small equipment items replaced. Standing Together As Responders Serve (STARS) will be our local auxiliary organization that is available to provide these specific support needs to them. These services will fall outside the scope of the Fire/EMS Dept/Board and/or the City of Burrton’s operational budget. Equipment and supply costs are rising and our Fire/EMS board furnishes our department with what they can make available. The National Volunteer Fire Council estimates the cost to train and equip just one firefighter is $20,000. A certified EMS/EMT can exceed this amount. To show your support you may consider making a monetary donation and/or sign up to be a contact for volunteer needs when these events arise.
