Once again, the series showcased a wide range of what our area has to offer, with learning, fun, and physical activity on full display. This year featured another story trail with Blue Ridge Partnership for Children, several opportunities to practice preparedness, Latin dance on the square, another amazing presentation of Reading is Alive, a nighttime movie showing, bike riding, robot building, and so much more.

School hasn’t started just yet! Join us for the grand finale of the Sizzlin’ Summer Series this Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the Burnsville Town Square. The Back to School Bash is the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer!

This beloved event returns with a day full of fun for all ages. Bounce on inflatables, pick up a good book from the Toe River Valley Regional Library Bookmobile, and enjoy a variety of other summer activities. Indulge in treats like cotton candy and popcorn, or grab a bite from the Kona Ice Truck, Pig & Grits Food Truck, or Wicked Good Pretzels. Free backpacks and school supplies will also be distributed.

A program of Partners Aligned Toward Health, Healthy Yancey is a partnership of concerned citizens working together to improve the quality of health for all people in Yancey County. Healthy Yancey developed the Sizzlin’ Summer Series to promote connections between neighbors and people, increase physical activity, and create fun ways to play and be active in our community. Sizzlin’ Summer Series activities are appropriate for ALL ages and abilities and are completely FREE!
