What Is a Farmer?

I have been asked this question many times. I have answered it many different ways but I will now do my best to tell what I think a TRUE farmer is.

A farmer is:
Someone who is not looking to get rich. When asked a farmer will tell you they just want to make a living.

A farmer is:
Someone who loves what they do with a passion that can’t be understood or explained to anyone else.

A farmer is:
Someone who’s favorite smell is and always will be fresh plowed ground.

A farmer is:
Someone who knows and understands hard work. They realize even in this time of comfort and ease that sometimes hard work is the only solution to a problem.

A farmer is:
The most creative, ingenious, engineers man kind has ever produced. If NASA truly wanted to colonize Mars, the should just send send a few farmers. All they would need would be a roll of duck tape, bailing twine, fence wire, hammer, screwdriver, and pliers. The red planet would be green by mid summer.

A farmer is:
Someone who understands that farming is not a gamble but a leap of faith.

A farmer is:
Someone who takes pride in the crops they grow and the animals they raise.

A farmer is:
Someone who can watch a year’s worth of work disappear in a 30 min rainstorm and simply say maybe next year.

A farmer is:
Someone who has felt the bite of cold winds and suffocation of the hot sunshine.

A farmer is:
Someone who understands that even though they may do everything they can the end result may still be a failure.

A farmer is:
Someone that don’t need any motivation other than the job needs to get done.

A farmer is:
Someone who takes great pride in what they can do not what they have.

A farmer is:
Someone that knows and understands that the most important thing they will ever raise is the next generation.
