ARCHIE AVAILABLE:
We recently had a group of 2 yr old sable-headed white collies surrendered to us. There were 4 boys and 2 girls - one of the boys, Sagan, and one girl, Lucy, have already been adopted but the others are getting ready for their forever homes, too.
They were living together in a pen and they have not had any experience outside of that, so they will need some guidance as they learn about living the good life. All of them are super sweet and love other dogs but some, like Archie (bio below) and Rowan, are definitely more fearful about the big, wide world so will need patient and loving homes to help them blossom and would definitely benefit from having a zen canine companion or 2 around. From Archie's foster family:
We have a very special collie we are fostering. Introducing Archie! He is a 2 year old, sable headed white rough collie. We donāt know exactly what his first two years of life entailed, but we can make some assumptions given his fear of people. He seems to have only been an outdoor dog before.
Hereās what we have learned about him over the last month:
* He absolutely loves to play with other dogs and run around in the yard. If there is a toy around- he will play with it! Heās goofy and rolls around and gets zoomies like all teenage puppies.
* He is anxious when humans are near or try to pet him. He has become more apathetic to our presence as long as we give him some space and donāt make quick movements. When he feels he is safe, like in his crate, he soaks up all the pets and ear scratches. He seems to like women more than men and feel more comfortable with older adults.
* He likes treats but is distrustful of the intent of the treat giver and therefore will only take them from afar. Leashes have been associated with change for him so no walking yet. This is something his new owner will need to work on.
* He is crate trained (itās his safe space) and has been sleeping happily in his crate. He seems to understand the concept of going potty outside but occasionally has accidents when scared.
* He has not shown any aggressive behavior towards people or dogs, even when scared.
Itās clear he has had a hard life. But we see his sweet nature and know he will be an exceptional dog with the proper love and patience. Given his love of other dogs we think he would be best in a home with another confident, playful dog.
