October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and today is . We are wearing purple in solidarity to show victims and survivors they're not alone. 💜

360 Communities opened our Lewis House domestic and sexual violence shelter in 1979. Since then, we have expanded our violence prevention and intervention services to include sexual assault services, outreach support, and community education.

FREE Community Food Distribution - Fridays in Burnsville! 🥕

📍 501 E Highway 13, Suite 112, Burnsville, MN 55337

360 Communities is giving away variety boxes of rescue food at our Burnsville Food Shelf on Friday mornings. We will start at 10:30 AM and continue until we run out.

Please drive around to the back of the building and wait in your car. A volunteer will bring your requested boxes to your vehicle.

Our Friday Community Food Distribution is made possible by volunteers who sort and pack quality food donated by local grocery stores and businesses each week. Boxes may include fresh produce, bakery items, dairy, snacks, and other grocery products. Selection varies each week and is available while supplies last.

Because these items are rescued from local grocery stores, some products may be at or beyond their "best by" date. Our volunteers carefully inspect every item, and we only distribute food that we would feel comfortable serving to our own families.

All are welcome. ❤️ No pre-registration is required.

This October, 360 Communities marked a new era of survivor support during Domestic Violence Awareness Month , breaking ground on a new Lewis House shelter and Survivor Support Center.

In a private ceremony, President & CEO Jeff Mortensen honored the late Senator B. Robert Lewis, Minnesota's first African American state senator and advocate for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, after whom the Lewis House is named.

“His leadership helped give voice to those too often unheard and advanced the vision of justice, safety, and dignity,” said Jeff.

“Through the Lewis House, 360 Communities staff and volunteers carry that legacy forward, providing refuge, advocacy, and support to survivors and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence. We honor every survivor whose courage has opened a path towards safety, healing, and a new beginning. We honor the families who have found healing and rebuilt their lives with strength and hope.”

Project partners joined 360 Communities staff and Board members to toss the first shovels of dirt and kick off what promises to be a transformative project that will support safety and stability for generations to come.

Learn about Lewis House history, meet 360 Communities staff and project partners, see plans for the new build, and take part in a mosaic art project that will be installed in the finished shelter, led by artist Anne Krocak, who has spent 30+ years making public art for community healing. A national survey found that 97% of domestic violence survivors report that keeping pets with them is an important factor when deciding whether they will seek shelter.

Half of domestic violence survivors would not consider going to a shelter if their pet could not come with them.

Unfortunately, our current Lewis House cannot house pets, so many people don't come when they need us.

The new Lewis House will have a designated pet center and play area, allowing survivors to bring their dogs, cats, and other animals with them to safety.

Pets provide comfort and security in times of crisis, and by supporting our capital campaign, you can help keep more survivors and their furry friends safe. 💜
