MY Neighbors An All-Volunteer Eldercare Network Serving Yancey County, NC MY Neighbors (MYN) is an all-volunteer membership organization with no paid staff.

Volunteers provide all of the effort needed to help the Members we serve. Many members are also Volunteers. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a state recognized charity. We offer services and programs for elders so they can remain in their homes and stay connected, empowered, and engaged. Our community is strengthened when we help each other.

Please help us spread the word about this free workshop on Thursday, May 14th. It's open to everyone - including staff of organizations serving people living with dementia and their caregivers. A flyer is attached.

Free workshop - “When Pieces Shift: Understanding Dementia." Thursday, May 14, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m., Yancey Co. Public Library. If you've got questions about the brain changes associated with the most common forms of dementia and the puzzling challenges it creates, this program is for you. Join us to learn how the puzzle pieces shift and strategies for adapting to them. All are welcome to attend. Sponsored by the Mountain Air Community Fund, the program is hosted by Dementia Caregivers & Friends. Speaker: Kent Smith, Certified Dementia Practitioner, Dementia Alliance of NC Ambassador, and Positive Approach to Care Trainer & Consultant. Registration is appreciated but not required. MY Neighbors is looking for volunteers. We are an all-volunteer network of neighbors helping neighbors age in place in their homes. Our volunteers sign up for the services they are willing to provide at a time that is convenient for them. Our most frequent need is transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping. We reimburse at the IRS business rate, currently 72.5 cents per mile. If you would like to join us, send an email to [email protected] or call us at 828-295-2412. It's a great way to get to know our diverse and charming community of elders.
