A MESSAGE FROM ED MANN, President of the Mifflin County Veterans: First, I need to apologize for not using email more often. It’s just been crazy at work and with the family.
I recently met with the Post Officers of the Lewistown VFW to brief them on our organization. While there the Post Commander provided me with the attached advertisement for an event at Miller Cinema 6 that id free to veterans and their families. I will be meeting with other groups in the future. In fact, I will be making a presentation to the Lewistown Rotary Club on October 29th and a Veterans Group through Geisinger Medical Center on November 11th.
Our organization will be making a $600.00 donation to the Rotary club in effort to allow spouses to attend at no charge during their Veterans Day Luncheon on November 11th at the Reedsville Fire Company.
Our meal on October 31st will be pizza and salads with some soda available too. We have no meeting in November due to Thanksgiving. We are planning turkey, ham and the sides for our meal in December. As a reminder our meal in December is a week early on December 19th due to the Christmas Holiday.
Our Treasurer Jim Peters designed a banner, and had it made so we can use it at events to market the organization. He is also going to hand candy out on October 25th in downtown Lewistown in the South Mall off Market Street as part of Safe Trick or Treating.
Our Sgt. Of Arms Dan Bishop is working on T-Shirts that will have our logo on and polo shirts too. We may have proofs of both at our October meeting. They will eventually be for sale. Dan is also looking for volunteers to serve on a Color Guard. If you’re interested, please see him, or let me know.
I have attached the flyer for the Banners for Veterans. The price includes the mounting hardware and installation. As a reminder they will initially be hung in Victory and Rec Park. If there is a Veteran who wants a banner and can’t afford one, please let me know. Several people have agreed to cover the cost. Katelyn Rauch from Lewistown Borough is collecting the money and managing the program.
A final word about the banners. I recently learned that the Lewistown VFW Ladies Auxiliary raised the issue about the banner early in 2024 and then things went kind of quiet until the subject was raised at one of our meetings. After I made some inquires it seems as though things got moving again. I just want to say thank you to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for getting things started.
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
